having problems with ftp access (USRobotics Router 8000)

I just set up my two computers with a router (US Robotics Broadband Router model # 8000) and i'm having a hell of a time configuring this thing. The two computers have access to the internet, but i'm having trouble with ftp.

I turn on my serv-u application which i usually use for FTP'ing but people can't seem to connect to it at all. I'm also having trouble connecting to ftp's with CuteFTP. It'll connect, but it won't start downloading the list for hte directory and just stops. Anyone have any experience with this router or ftp issue? please help!

 
because it's a router you need to open up ports to allow FTP programs to get out.

FTP port is usually port 21

Read your manual and see if it discusses setting up port forwarding on your router
