Having problems with AGP on my KT7-RAID.

Well, first off, please don't pay any attention to typos or any odd sentences I may be typing since I'm on some REALLY nice synthetic narcotics right now. For some reason, my appendix went south and I had it removed Thursday night. It had actually started to burst, but they caught it just in time. Weird thing, too, because it really didn't hurt that much. I went to the doctors office "just because" I had a little pain in that area and thought it wouldn't be a good idea to let it go too long. DAMN good thing I did, or I would've been in the hospital for a week or more hooked up to IV antibiotics.

So anyhow, I now have a few days off from work and have decided to try and get the my system together as my strengh allows. Here are the specs:

Abit KT7-RAID
TBird 700@700
2 x 64MB PC100
AGP slot - Gigabyte GA-256 GeForce
PCI Slot #3 - ATI TV-Wonder
PCI Slot #4 - 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100 Ethernet
PCI Slot #5 - Soundblaster Live! Value
PCI Slot #6 - LinkSYS LNE100 version 1.0
WD 30.7 gig 5400rpm on primary master of the RAID controller
Pioneer 103s 6x DVD on IDE 33/66 primary master
Memorex CRW-2642 on IDE 33/66 secondary master

I updated with Detonator 3 6.18 drivers, VIA 4in1 4.24a. I disabled ACPI since it was bunching all the IRQs together and used the BIOS to put the GeForce on its own IRQ (3). IRQ for VGA is enabled. I also did the registry trick to enable AGP 4x.

For some reason, AGP doesn't seem to be working at all. I get 2000 3D marks in 3dMark2000 (kind of ironic don't you think? :) ). Which is what I got with these components on my old K6-2 400 system. When using WCUPID,

<< AGP Chip set Info. >>

Chip-set Device : VIA Apollo KT133
Chip-set Revision : 02
AGP Revision : 2.0
AGP Operations : Disable

Data Transfer Rate
Supported : 1x 2x 4x

-------- -------- -------- --------
03051106 22100006 06000002 00000000
000000C0
0020C002 1F000207 00000000 0004022B
00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000

AGP Operations are DISABLED. 1, 2 and 4x are supported, but CURRENT is greyed out. So are SIDEBAND, GREATER 4GB ADDRESSING, FIRST WRITE and APERATURE SIZE.

To verify, I used entech's PCI list program and it gave me the following:

--------------------------------------------------------
AGP transfers
--------------------------------------------------------
The AGP aperture is currently set to 256MB.

The system board does NOT support AGP transfers. The graphics card supports up to 4X AGP transfers.

AGP transfers are NOT currently enabled.

--------------------------------------------------------
Sideband addressing
--------------------------------------------------------
The system board does NOT support sideband addressing. The graphics card does NOT support sideband addressing.

Sideband addressing is NOT currently enabled.

--------------------------------------------------------
Fast writes
--------------------------------------------------------
The graphics card supports fast writes.

Fast writes are NOT currently enabled.

--------------------------------------------------------
AGP revision
--------------------------------------------------------
The graphics card is an AGP 2.0-compliant device, and may not work correctly under Windows 95 or with first-generation AGP system boards. Ensure you have the very latest GART manager (AGP driver) installed.

--------------------------------------------------------
PCI bus hogging
--------------------------------------------------------
The graphics card may be hogging the bus, which could cause problems for other devices like PCI sound cards.

--------------------------------------------------------
Related issues
--------------------------------------------------------
PCIList only queries the system configuration registers. In the event of problems, other things to check to ensure AGP support is enabled and working properly include the following:

- make sure the correct and latest GART manager (AGP driver) for your system board is installed, as well as the latest drivers for your graphics card and DirectX version

- in your system BIOS Setup program, the AGP aperture should be enabled and set to at least 64MB; an IRQ should be assigned to the VGA card; any option referring to spread spectrum should be disabled; and video BIOS and RAM shadowing should be disabled

- if the system has been overclocked to reach 699 MHz, the AGP clock may now be too high; system memory which otherwise works without errors may be unable to cope with the heavier demands of AGP traffic when running 3D applications

- some AGP features may actually be available in hardware, but be disabled in specific BIOS and/or driver releases, or even by user-configurable software switches (e.g., in the Windows registry)

I know that I have AGP aperature set to 64mb in BIOS, but PCI list shows it at 256mb. I've pretty much exhausted my currently drug-hazed mind for answers before asking the Forum Members.

Could somebody possibly point out a few things I might have missed?

Sorry to hear about your appendix. I'm not really knowledgeable in these areas, so I can't help you.

Yeah, it's actually a bit painful getting around. On the other hand, though, you get those nice drugs. :)

Oh, and I seem to have cleared up the AGP problem. I downloaded the 4.03G AGP driver from VIA on a hunch, ran it and now everything works fine. I'm getting 4100 3DMarks at default. APPARENTLY, the 4in1 drivers didn't install all the AGP components corretly.

So for anyone else having a similiar problem should try this.

Why is it that you can only fix a problem AFTER you've posted a plea for help on a public forum? It doesn't seem to matter HOW much time you tried fixing it on your own. You won't come up with the answer until AFTER you ask for help. Weird. :p
