having problems w/ my optical out

Ok so im trying to hook up my 5.1 surround sound home theater system to my computer via optical out. So i plugged them in and when im running the sound test, i do not get any sound from the rear left and right speakers. I hear the fronts fine and sub. but when it comes to the rear they do not work. WHen i test it from the receiver itself, all speakers work fine. What can be causing this problem? any help? thanks

Well if you're getting /anything/, then the optical link is working alright. Make sure your test software actually generates as many channels as you have hooked up. Check that your speaker arrangement settings (in the audio driver) are correct. Etc.
