having problems sleeping

So for the past couple weeks I've been having a hard time going to sleep at a normal time (usually 10 or 11pm). I've been staying awake, tossing and turning until 2 or 3am before I can get to sleep. Since I have to wake up at 7:30, I feel like I don't get a good nights rest. I've tried cutting back on coffee in the mornings (from 2 cups down to 1) and cutting back on beer at night (no more than 2, all before 7pm). But I've still got a bout of insomnia.

I think it's stress from having to find a new job and worrying about my financial well-being. I heard a commercial about Ambien tonight, does anyone here know anything about it? Do I just make an appointment with my doctor and ask for it?

I've had a lot of sleeping problems as of late (last couple months) but I never really thought it'd be considered insomnia. It's starting to kill my health though. Is there a website for this drug?

www.ambien.com. But I'm looking for real-world experience about the drug. Of course the manufacturer thinks it's the best thing on earth.

For me, I'll lie in bed for about 30-45 minutes before I can fall asleep, regardless of how tired I am. I came home from school early today to go to sleep and I couldn't.

Ambien is only recommended for 21 days or less....I would consider trying to relax, and stop worrying about stuff so much. A good massage can actually do you wonders...also maybe talking to someone about your worries can help too.

Considering I'm stressed out over finding a new job, having to worry about drug tests before any new job would only add to the stress. Plus I have a hard enough time seeing a doctor about a prescription drug, how nervous do you think I'd be about getting an illegal one :p

If you have any better suggestions, i'm all ears...

stop drinking beer and all caffeinated drinks?

I drank beer and coffee before i had a hard time sleeping. I don't think that is the problem even though I've cut back. I don't drink any other caffeinated bevarages either. Just coffee and beer (not at the same time).

I avoid all prescription drugs at all cost.
Heck, I'm not even comfortable with OTC medicine.

Exercise (to get yourself tired) and get a good mattress

you just HAD to bring up that health crap :p J/K. I haven't gotten much excecise lately, been lazy alot. Plus I just feel too tired after work to do anything. I'm slightly overweight, but I've been that way for a while and haven't had problems sleeping. I'm just wondering if Ambien would help me fall asleep. My thinking is if I get enough sleep during the night, I'll have enough energy throughout the day to be more active. Getting less than 5 hours sleep a night makes me feel tired all day long.

Excercise helps get rid of stress, which is what's causing you not to sleep in the first place....it might be hard the first day, but even though it sounds weird, you'll have more energy throughout the days instead of feeling tired all day and then not being able to sleep at night

Pot works wonders for me. Warm milk is supposed to work too.

I had sleeping pills prescribed to me when i had strep throat (lorazepam). I had the best sleep of my life! I only had one pill out of the bottle, and the doctor only gave me 15 because it's supposed to be addicitve. But maaaan.... best sleep of my life.

NO POT! I don't want to be a loser hooked on marijuana. Beer is as bad as I'll go and I'm cutting that back as well.
