Having problems running 3D with HIS 1900gt

I have an 'ASRock conroe esata 2' mobo and the HIS 1900gt graphics card. I am trying to install this card. I have used the drivers which came with the card and when I look in the device manager, there is nothing outstanding to install (ati control centre even recognises this card and I can play with the basic and advance settings). Under the system display: - I can see the system is aware that a 1900gt card is present and running the display. The problem occurs when trying to run a game(e.g. Far Cry). After installing far cry and the card drivers several times, I try to start the game each time and it doesn't even show any menus. It just immediately stops running (no error messages).
I also tried Sim City 4. Can't even install this onto system.
My pioneer 111b dvd drive is running fine (dvd movies work ok).
How do I fix this problem?

Which HIS version is it ? The regular or the IceQ3 ? I dont ever use drivers that come on the cd. Try using the 6.8's.

Its the IceQ3.

I will try the 6.8 drivers.

Do I just need to install these drivers and it should be OK? or do I need to go threw further setup?

Did you have any other cards in this system before now? They may have left behind pieces of old drivers. Did you install Microsoft NET framework? CCC requires it. When changing drivers it would be best to download Driver Cleaner Pro and wipe any old ones out first. I would then try 6.8.

Look at the driver page on ATI's webside and look for the download that says Microsoft NET framework, it's on the same page that the 6.8's are. Or you could run windows update and look under the optional downloads for the ones that say NET framework.

CCC and .NET are optional, it replaced the old Ati control panel. You can still download just the base driver and the use Ati Tray Tools to adjust video options. I use it and it works great. Also, it may be a game issue. I know Farcry originally had video corruption issues with x1k cards until a patch later fixed it.

Good point munky. I guess I should've learned from the example of akshayt that not everyone patches their games like I would assume 😱

I tried a new install with the 6.8 drivers and 2.0 .net files. I also used direct x 9.0c.

This game and others don't work. I get an access violation message. I looked in the windows32 folder and checked directx and it isn't the 9.0c version. I have tried to load the 9.0c version but it doesn't seem to load. I think there is a problem with the direct access memory.

Any solutions?

Did you use Driver Cleaner (Pro)? It requires a start up in safe mode to run, but removes EVERYTHING from the previous install. Haven't had a corrupted ATI install since (9800Pro, X850Pro, and now a X1900XT).
