So i've tried 3 different mobo's, cd rom drives.

so i'm trying to install win2k, and each time i do it it just reboots(and gives a blue screen) after its all installed, i think its a power supply issue but can that really cause this problem?

one more thing, i checked my 40gig for errors and none showed up but if i try to install stuff on there just boom reboot (sometimes), but i also tried to install win2k on a 2gig drive and installed, but get werid errors....

Could the problem be the processor? kinda hard to test.. i suppose...

PC Specs=
Asus p4s533
ocz pc2100
p4 1.6

I'm beat, and getting out of ideas.. i'm sad... working on it since 2 so its been about 8hrs or so..

sorry if it doesnt make sense, was up doing this for a while now.

edit2- tried to install win98, got a OD error :-/

-cpu
-power supply
-hdd?

What's the STOP code? The numbers in parentheses?

A power supply will not cause a blue screen.

A bad CPU could cause any number of blue screens, most notably a STOP 0x0000009C (machine check exception)
A bad hard drive might cause a STOP 0x00000077 or a STOP 0x0000007A

But if either the drive or the CPU were bad, you likely wouldn't be able to complete the install. Much more likely is that this is a software (driver) causing the crash. Did you install any drivers that didn't come on the W2K CD?

update- I tried to install windows on a clean fdisk'd hdd. Ran scandisk on 2gb drive(clean), no drivers were installed, i just wanted a stable OS installed, but that isnt the case.

when i used the 40gb drive - install would halt, but the drive is working(no errors)
when i used the 2.0gb drive - install seemed to go, but i get errors in windows after the install is done.

I'm so confused.

booted into win98 cause thats the last OS i tried to install, and i got..

An exception OE has occured at 0028:C100353F in VxD.

This sounds like a power supply problem or more likely a memory problem. If you can borrow some memory I would test that idea.

Install W2K.
Get me the STOP code.
If it's hardware, the STOP code can get us an almost certain diagnosis.

A STOP 0x50 is almost universally a software (driver) error, although bad RAM could cause it as well.

Are you running any drivers other than those on the W2K CD? (You *are* running drivers... keyboard driver, mouse driver, video, network, but PnP installs them automatically from the W2K CD.)

If you reboot, do you consistently get a STOP 0x50?

Have you completed GUI mode setup? Have you tried safe mode?

If Win98 is also unstable on this platform, the cause is almost certainly bad RAM.

Reboot several times and note the STOP code. See if it ever changes from a STOP 0x50.

Disable what? Plug and Play? You don't.

Your system wouldn't be very useful if the mouse, keyboard, video, and network didn't run.

Your problem is most likely bad RAM. Is setup crashing in the same place every time?

Remove a RAM stick, swap slots, etc.
