having problems creating network using wireless d-link router

Here's my problem, i have two XP HP's that i connect to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th ports of my D-Link wireless router (802.11b). It will sometimes not allow both computers to connect to the workgroup network and other times it will. It will always after a few minutes though come back with a windows system error that they have the same IP adress. Funny thing is that for a few minutes it won't. The only way I can move my music folder from one computer to the other is to turn off the power to the router, close all windows, and then switch the CAT5's in the ports. This randomness suggests to me that i am not doing something right. I have used two different D-link wireless routers (both .11b's), and they both have the same problem. How can i fix this and how can i setup my router so it will quit assigning the same IP's to both comps after a while.

AAGGHHH this is hair-pullingly frustratin 18gigs of music and i've only gotten 2 gigs in 2 hours.....

thanks for the help, sorry if this has been posted previously.

also...i am unfamiliar with how Firewire ports work but both machines have them, can i utilize this easily to transfer my music and stuff..or will it just be a large pain b/c of hardware and setting up network connections (something i seem to be pretty bad at). Thanks for the help.

How do you have DHCP configured on the router? Do you have a large enough field of addresses?

You could try sssigning static IP addresses to the pcs, just make sure the addresses are on the same subnet as the router.
