Having problem with my lan connection

I have configured my Pci ethernet card and I have no problem extchanging data with other computers. The problem occurs when I try to play a "lan" game (counter-strike or any other recent games). If I host a game, people can't join me and if I try to join a game, it doesn't work at all. I've never had this problems before, maybe it's because I have format my computer, ... I don't know ...
Please give me a hand.
