Ok, I'm being a nice guy and fixing my g/f's laptop up for her and I got the drivers for everything off Compaq's webpage, and I installed the 3 or so lan drivers that were there (a few were WLAN), but I can't seem to be able to actually get online even with the drivers, the connections are enabled and started so I don't understand whats going on here. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

More info!

What ip addy when you dos prompt ipconfig?

what is it hooked up to? dsl/comcast, a router, etc...

WLAN is wireless, why do wireless if it is wired? what is the status of your card? (enabled, connected, etc.) does it say cable is disconnected? ...etc...

Is it connecting to a static connection or a dynamic connection? ie. does your computer get its tcp/ip info from your ISP or do you manually have to enter it?

Ok,

When I use IPconfig I get two addys back, one for the LAC and one for Etherenet adapter Network Bridge. Ip addys are 192.168.0.1 and 169.254.236.128 respectively.

It's hooked through a router that both my PC and my mothers use.

All of my wired connections say enabled, not connected, but the wireless one says unavailable.

Well, see the IP addy of my other two PC's changed when I hooked them through the router but IIRC, I had to manualy enter them.

Remove all connections from the Network Bridge and then delete the bridge. Windows XP is notorious for creating bridges between wired and wireless connections on laptops when the bridges shouldn't be there, and many times just make it so that nothing works. Remove those bridged connections you'll probably be able to get online.

Thanks man, actually I figured out what I did...err didn't do.

A while back when I got my wireless router (im wired, mom's pc is WLAN) I set it up so the only people that could get access to/from the router were people within a specific IP address range, which just so happend to be only mine and my mother's PCs...so duh, the laptop couldn't get a signal from the router to go online.

Fixed the problem, thanks though guys. :)
