Having HUGE RAM Problems, just bought a new stick please help

Hey guys i just bought a new stick of 1024 RAM, to go along with my 512 RAM ( i took bak the 256) anyways

they are both PC 3200 so im running some benches using PC mark 04 and 3D mark 01 and my results are out of whack. First i do a single stick test using the 512 my settings for 3d mark 01 were 4 X AA. Anyways i got 16320. then PC mark i got 3881.

Now I switched the 512 and did just the 1024, I got 16636 and 3948 respectively . Im very happy!

so now im excited to see both of them, so i put the 1024 in the first slot and 512 in the other and i get 16231?!?!? and 3883?!?!?? respectively

Why are my Marks going lower with both sticks!?!??!?!

I know it cant be the slots because i tested both slots with single sticks and results were the same........

And i know its not the RAM because i tested both of them seperatly/!?! I even switched them around and pout the 1 gig ram in the second slot and 512 in the first same results....

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!

Computer-
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (New Castle) (socket754) (overclocked to 2.2 GHZ)
MSI K8M Neo-V MoBo.
MSI NVidia 6600GT AGP8X (545 mhz, 1 gig mhz)
80GB SATA Samsung+ 30 Gig Maxtor
2 DVD RW's 4X (Pioneer)
Enermax 350 Watt dual fan (manual) power supply
1536 DDR RAM

you're really splitting hairs there. maybe the added memory puts more overhead on the memory controller. play a game like BF2 or some huge MMORPG then you would notice more of a differance with 1.5gb

Hey I'm no expert at this but is there any way the BIOS wants to turn on Dual Channel? From what I know, you can only Dual Channel with memory of the same size. That may be your problem. Can any other reader verify this?

there is no dual channel with socket 754. you should be able to use any size sticks.

His CPU doesn;t support dual channel anyways (newcastle)...

Those benchies may not use more than 1GB of RAM so you may not see any differences with 1.5 GB. Try playing a few games that have large memory demands (BF2). Those results are very close together, so I wouldn't worry. Wht are the timings on each stick? If the 512 stick has worse timings, both sticks will be forced to use them and may drop overall performance, while with just the 1GB stick, you can use the better timings... Hope that makes sense...

You're talking about a maximum variance of less than 2.5%. It could be caused by any number of differences in the test setup--anything from hard disk fragmentation to LAN activity. But 2.5% seems well within the bounds of a system's natural performance variation.

hey guys, well i did what you said instead of benching, and acutally kinda funny, I loaded up HL2 and CS:S and in the video stress test in source a 2 FPS increase...But! when i loaded up HL2, oh man..Loading times were FREAKING QUICK!
it was like 5 seconds to close HL2 down , before it took me a whole stutter, then like 20 seconds...and when loading in HL2 its like 50 % faster... i didnt notice any slowdown when playing either, i ran HL2 benching and got almost the same FPS rate and much faster loading times! thanks, I acutally bought the RAM for BF2, because the demo was kinda choppy on 512.
So is my memory ok?

its still kinda odd to see the points going down, i cant notice anything in game and like i said in CS:S video stress test i gained points, but like i dont see how the RAM should change my FPS rate....and when i take it out i get more points haha lol prob some compatability issue with Future mark

It could be that the SPD is relaxing the timings a bit with two double sided dimms installed. You need to get CPU-Z (whatever its name is) and see what both sticks are running at alone and together to see if slightly relaxed timings are coming into play.
