Having corrupt file problem...hard drive or something else?

I don't know what is going on, but I have been having this weird problem that has been occuring every now and then since I have upgraded my cpu/mobo/ram.

Basically, every now and then, probably 20% of the time, I try to install a game/patch/whatever, the program reports a file corruption error even though the file specified is on a retail CD. So I'll cancel, try to install again, and it works perfectly. I don't get it. I also get corrupted downloaded files ocassionally.

I have ran Memtest86 overnight and didn't even get 1 error ran Western Digital's diagnostics utility which found no errors also.

My PC specs are:

Athlon XP 2800+
Asus A7N8X Dlx. 2.0 w/ latest BIOS
Corsair 1GB PC3200LL DDR
Western Digital 120GB w/ 8MB cache
Radeon 9700 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy (bout to be an Audigy 2)

At this point, I think it's possibly a problem with the IDE ports on the mobo. I have tried switching cables to no avail.

Here's a quick list to try:

1. Are you using rounded cables? If so swap them for ribbon and try.

2. What make of CD-ROM are you using? Is it old/cheap and nasty? Can you try another?

3. Have you cecked your mobo manufacturer's website for a newer bios to flash?

It almost definitely sounds like a hardware problem to me.
