having a wine problem on ubuntu

slag

Lifer
Im running ubuntu on an amd3500 setup with 1 gb of ram, 60 gb of disk space, ati radeon 8500 card, etc

problem is, I'm trying to install command and conquer off the cdrom by browsing to the cd and then doing "wine setup.exe" setup starts up and i put in my cd keys..

problem occurs when its installing from the cd/dvd rom drive, it appears to just die.. the drive stops spinning and the installer stops going. I have to reboot. It occurs at different poitns during the installation if i try it multiple times, but never finishes. I'm instaling it to c:\program files as the wine wiki says to do...

Any ideas on how to fix this?

i know the media isnt bad because it installed perfectly on my windows box.

You can coppy the contents of the CD to a Dir called .wine, you will find there your wine_C drive. Put the contents of the CD and restart the task.
There is a problem I found under Wine:
A program cannot start 2 times when you use 2 monitors with Nvidia cards. If it happens, CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE will restart X and solve your problem.
Note: all of your programs running under X will die too. and you will be prompted to login again.

where is my .wine directory located? i was under the impression it was created during the install and since i am not doing the install, where is it located?

What sucks is, the game i am installing is the westood 10 years dvd disk that is pretty big so it will take awhile..

sigh
