Having a problem with my hardrive(I think)

Alright, this is the story. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's been doing this since I bought the computer so it's a little weird. Whenever I boot up the computer, it loads partially into Windows. Like, you see the start menu and everything. but I can't click anything until after everything loads. And this takes like 5-10 minutes. It's really weird, as if I'm trying to click the start menu for it to open, and I get the hourclock icon on my house. I mean, I can use my mouse and everything, but I can't click.

Also, every once in a while, while I'm browsing through my hard drive, it will sometimes freeze up for about anywhere from 1 minutes to 5 minutes. It eventually goes back to normal but it only happens when I'm trying to access the hard drive. Now, I don't think the hard drive is faulty, because it works most of the time. But also, whenever I try to load up games, its takes forever, even with the most basic ones.

Anybody got a clue whats going on here?

Is it well defragged and you have alot of free space for the swap file to move about?

Then check SMART values for temperature, errors, etc. And check event information for drive errors.
