I'm not sure of how or when it happened but my parents Win 7 pc has a browser hijack: homepage and and new tabs always redirect to Conduit.com search

I've done the obvious like add/remove programs, tools > manage add ons & search, manually setting the homepage. I've also run Combofix. I don't trust most of the advice I've seen from doing a google search though currently I'm taking the advice from here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com.../thread/179b4340-83df-4f94-8d3d-586a2afad7ff/
I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner (never heard of that one before) and it came up empty and currently I'm doing a full scan w/ MalwareBytes in safe mode (it was already installed but I hadn't thought of doing it in Safe Mode). If that doesn't work - what else you got? If you have no personal experience with the Conduit hijack, please don't just select a random search link and suggest I follow the advice (unless maybe the source of the advice has never steered you wrong)

If it matters, the system is Win 7 64

MalwareBytes didn't find anything but here's how I fixed it (don't know if it matters but I did it in Safe Mode):

1) Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset (I did not have to check clear personal settings)

2) Then I went to General > Home Page
and manually changed to https://www.google.com/

I rebooted the system and no more Conduit in IE
