I ended up looking similar to that after hitting the deck during a road race back in college. Blowing out a tire while doing 40+ down a hill will do that. I still have scars from that crash and it was over 10 years ago.

Most cyclists learn that the hard way after coming home with terrible chafing in, um.....areas you typically don't want to chafe. The idea is that the chamois moves with you so you don't rub anything tender the wrong way and it can't do that if you've got BVDs in the way.
