Having 2 OSs: is performance affected?

I was wondering if putting two operating systems on your computer will slow it down at all. For example, I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and was thinking about putting Linux on my computer as well. I play a lot of games; however, and want them to run as smoothly as possible. In fact, I just reformatted my hard drive so I could start fresh and make sure my gaming performance would be top-notch. I was wondering if installing Linux in addition to XP, or any other OS for that matter, would slow down my overall computer performance in any respect at all.

Thanks!

Nope. The OSes reside on separate partitions. The only downside will be less hard drive space.

Unless the partition is nearly full, there should be no effect on performance to my knowledge.
