Hi All,
I'm considering a gaming PC build for the first time in years, so here goes:
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Playing games. Skyrim, multiple EVE Online accounts, possibly other games.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
No set budget yet, but looking at higher end parts.
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
US
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.
I'm Intel/nVidia, which helps given that I have employee pricing access to both of these.
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Existing case (some '08 era Coolermaster), monitor (30" Dell, and might eventually upgrade this to a 27" Apple Cinema display)
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
I've been looking, but nothing quite exact.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
Default speeds.
8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with.
As high as possible, hopefully 2560x1600 or 1440
9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Before November, for Skyrim.
10. Don't ask for a build configuration critique or rating if you are thin skinned.
Bring it! (but this is the first thread like this I've done, so if you bring it, bring lube please)
OK... So I'm thinking along the lines of:
i7 2600K + intel SSD (I can get an employee price bundle on this)
nVidia GTX590, or SLI something else? (not sure here, certainly open to suggestion. my concern is that it doesn't sound like a jet engine, and may possibly run two monitors on this from time to time)
Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z (overkill?) Looking at Z68 chipset.
16GB or 32GB of the fastest memory the mobo will support
PSU: Some name brand in the 1000 watt range that has modular connectors
a 1 or 2TB drive (don't need a whole lot of storage on this machine)
Given that I already have the case, I'm guessing this is about it. I can buy this stuff via newegg or via some local retailer, whatever.
Budget isn't set yet, but it sounds like this is going to be expensive.
