have your car ever Brakes on its own? if so do you know why it happend?

94 dodge. it happend several time. the first time i notice i was about to cross the green light intersaction making a turn and then sudden i hear vroon vroon sound as i step on the gas.. it sound like a stickshift car where the gear switch to gear 1. (the car is automatic) i tried wiggling the gear box thinking i might not grid the gear all to D thinking it goes to Neutral a bit..

another time just straight up driving on straight road going about 40 mph.... then it brakes on its on while i step on the gas. it slow down for 1.7 seconds to about 36 mph.

i dont want to think its super natural. its gotta be some explanation to this. maybe the car mess up somehow. who have answer? who experience similar problem?

It would help on a problem like this to give the VIN# and list any work that has been done on the vehicle recently or at least model and engine and what type of brake system you have (4 wheel drums, disc/drum, or 4 wheel disc).

The only time I have seen this before is when a faulty brake booster was engaging from the vacuum and pushing on the master cylinder causing brake activation (without stepping on the brake pedal).

It would also be helpful to know if it is all 4 brakes or just one or two brakes. From your description, it seems to happen when you are stepping on the gas, which would be a low vacuum time for the brake booster. Anyway, just my best guess from the info you have given me.

It sort of sounds like it's down shifting and engine braking rather than actually braking.. To answer your question, no, I haven't owned or heard of a car that specifically braked on its own, other than brakes heating up and binding.

does not sound like braking. sounds like transmission slipping a gear. Both instances seem to be during accelleration, is that correct?
If so, your car may be having trouble downshifting for some reason.

A 1994 dodge isn't going to have any fancy traction control stuff to go wrong, so your brakes are only controlled by the brake pedal (hydraulics). Unless you're driving 2 footed and resting your left foot on the brake pedal, the brakes aren't the issue. Sounds more like transmission to me also, and given the car is 19 years old it wouldn't surprise me.

yes i only notice it when im stepping on the gas. yes it feels like like its downshifting on its own.

im not car guy and i dont know anything technically. all i know is the car is a 94 dodge shadow. the car was bought for under 1k so.... im kindda a bit scared that it may be super natural involve hahahaha.... but trying to be realistic... it must have some kind of technical issue.

so transmission problem? kindda make sense. like a year ago the whole engine was changed and before that.... the holes... something hole forgot whats it called (spark plug! not holes) was replaced with a new one. so yeah the car went through alot of changes under the hood. it could be that while swapping the engine ect..... something went wrong. like not install something properly ect....

in the scenario if the cause is due to something wrong about the transmission..... how to fix it? how much it cause to fix it at the shop?

i dont even use it for going work or any distance using freeway anymore. cause its dangerous... like all sudden the car downshift itself even though it is auto.

Sounds like transmission trouble.

^ditto. thinking its transmission problem.

If that were me , I'd have it looked at by a mechanic during the first time it occurred. You should really have a look at your car it may have other faulty car parts around there that you may not know.

Thread necro and pointless link suggests spam. Link removed.

Ray, what's up with putting the auto parts links in your posts like that? You seem to do that a lot.
