Have you won anything from a radio station?

Rarely ever listen to radio and never bothered with those contests but my wife has won a few times. Just yesterday she won $1000 for being caller 20. A few months ago she won 4 tickets to Disneyland and 2 tickets to a Gwen Stefani concert before that. I was joking with her that why can't she be this lucky when we play the lotto.

Make sure you declare on taxes as Station will claim tax deduction.

In answer to question was 20th caller one time and got $100.
I have won numerous trips and boats on phone cold calls but I decline.

What would happen if we "forget" to declare it?

When I was about 16, I had a friend who did the night shift at the local radio station. They had a 3rd caller wins tickets to a Boys 2 Men concert promotion that expired that night. After touting this contest all night, no one had called in. He called me in the morning before the promotion ended and asked me to call in. I did, I won the tickets.

It probably was not ethical, to "win" like that. But, they were crappy back row, top balcony tickets to a cheesy has-been band. I can sleep at night with what I did.

There will be a discrepancy twixt Stations deductions and your declared income. Will IRS catch it? IDK but the penalty is usually you have to pay what you owe with occasional additional penalties. (see Al Capone)

Probably nothing or the IRS could stick it's very long and thick dick up your ass. I'd just go ahead and declare it, I'd rather get repeatedly kicked in the nuts than having issues with the IRS.

When I lived in LA in 1974-75, I won two prime tickets to Mick Jagger's benefit concert for Nicaraguan relief in the wake of the earthquake in Managua. They were $25 a pop ($18,642 in inflation adjusted dollars.)

Quite a bit back in the KIIS FM days. Trip to Hawaii, sold it for $1000, $1000 cash, front row tickets to the Billboard Music Awards, and some other smaller things. The best part about the $1000 cash is I picked the wrong envelope and the guy said nope, you want to pick this one.

My sister always called radio stations and won prizes all the time. She's a very lucky person. She won me the opportunity to tour Coors Field and meet the Rookies as well. My face was on the big board. Somewhere there are pictures. I was about 14 at the time.

I called a radio station to make a song request and they told me I won. I was like I just wanted to make a song request. HAHA I didn't want the prize they were giving out. Plus, you have to drive all the way to Denver to pick the damn thing up. No thanks.

I used to work in local radio. Usually we'd ask for caller #9 and get four or five calls immediately. After they died down, the next caller was the winner. :p

I won twice.

Once, tickets to a MLB game and next time, tickets to see Rod Stewart.

Nope. A former co-worker won a trip to Italy. Makes me wonder how much time she spent calling the radio station using the company's resources.

Called in to 91X in San Diego to get in on some marketing thing for a $1000 shopping spree. Sounded like a scam, but I thought radio station...why would they allow a scam? Nope. Got scammed $20 for $1000 of useless coupons. Canceled my credit card right after I hung up. Pissed me off so much, I stopped listening to that radio station permanently.

I've won a few things...some concert tickets, baseball tickets and something else. I do recall one prize I won around Xmas and when I found time to go pick it up there was nobody at the station to give it to me. I guess it was the skeleton crew at that point.

Oh, IIRC you don't need to declare any prizes less than $600 (per year for each company you win from).

My friend's dad has a "system" for these things and can win practically anything....at least as of a few years ago.
