have you used alternatives to Google Desktop?

i use coppernic cuz its fast and doesn't use net access. atleast i don't think it does, if it tried i woulda blocked it with firewall. anyways its not important to the program like it is with google. and u cana customize it to remove buttons for search items u don't need..and to find file extentions you want. and also index mapped network drives which is nice.

I use X1 for my indexing and searching. I find it to be both fast and effective. If you don't mind paying the 75 dollars, it is a great product.

It does contact x1's servers, but I have sniffed the traffic, it is just doing a license check, not actually sending any personal information about your searches to them. I started blocking their license check about a week ago, and it continues to work OK, so thiat is apparenelty not required.

I have also used copernic and google. Both are good products, but I think X1 really beats them all. They have a free trial - try it out, you might like it 🙂

I have 2.5tb of data indexed through X1, including documents exceeding 2000 pages - searches are still really fast, and unlike some other products, it indexes the entire document, not just the first X pages, or X kb.
