Have you tried steel zip ties?

These are nothing short of amazing and perfect for so many situations where you don't want to rely on nylon or whatever other plastics are being used for normal zippies.

In my case, it's to keep critters from gnawing things I'd prefer not be gnawed. But so far, they don't seem to pay much attention to the nylon ones I've already used.

But I'm ready for you, you little bastards!

We started using them exclusively about four years ago to keep our drip irrigation suspended for hanging basket production.

For decades we used the UV treated plastic ties but in a greenhouse setting they would fail after a couple of years. Once they started to get brittle and break then the main lines for the basket irrigation would start to fall down and cause problems.

Once we discover the SS zip ties a few years ago it was a no brainer for us. Sure they cost a little more up front but the ones we put into use four years ago are still holding up strong. It also saved labor costs on the back end becasue I didn't have to pay someone to go through and replace failing zip ties every year.

We could use wire like Lxskllr suggested but when you have to replace thousands of zip ties the SS ones saved time and time equals money.

So in summary. Yes SS zip ties are awesome if the application warrants it.

These were one of the instruments often found in Olds' basement. You'll have to ask him if they were all stainless or some particular shade of grey.

I was thinking you meant a hose clamp, but apparently there are steel zip ties too. A hose clamp seems better, more precise with the screw, and reusable.

Every application mentioned above is fine for regular old bailing wire. Wrap, cut to length, twist, done. There are stainless versions too for wet locations.

I've never had much luck with SS Zip Ties.
