Have you slacked off in the last weeks of a job?

These last 3 or 4 weeks of my job here I'm really slacking off, basically from the point I told my manager I'm quiting. I'm not doing nothing, but basically I'm sitting here neffing and just helping customers who happen to walk by or who obviously seem to need help, and answering the phone. I used to be fairly aggressive and get out on the sales floor a lot, and usually met my sales targets. But I've basically lost interest in the job as of the last few months and my mind is elsewhere.

Note this is actually rather out of character for me. I'm usually hyper sensitive of what others may think of my performance and so I work extra hard or worry that I'm not meeting targets that are expected of me. My previous boss back when I worked at 7-11 absolutely loved me. And my current one here said some very nice things about me as well, just before he left on a 2 week holiday.

Anyway for those who have had jobs that they quit the question is, did you slack off at the end?

Other than the last one I was laid off from, I never had down time. I always started another job immediately. I've never had a job I could individually slack at anyway. I've always been part of a larger team that has to work together to complete a task.

I ended up being busier than I had ever been. However, my field is limited enough that you'll always cross paths with people again. Definitely not a good idea to burn bridges.

Yeah that's very different. Commission sales jobs like this you definitely can slack off. I'm NOT usually the type to do so though. I'm noramlly one of the hardest and most dilligent workers you'll see. But then I've only had this job and the one before it.

I'm planning on leaving my current job in the next few months and its hard to stay motivated. That being said, I've been working hard at setting up what I'm working on so the next guy can pick up where I left off. I'm proud of what I've accomplished on the design I'm working with and the last thing I want is to have all my hard work flushed down the tubes because the next guy can't figure out what I've done.

Yeah there's no "legacy" like that at the retail jobs I've worked. Hell you'll be lucky if any of the people you work with are still there in a year, what with the high turnover rate.

Sorry to say but your parents really need to kick you out of the house. You lack motivation. Once the reality of what's really happening in the world around you sets in and you realize things like homelessness and hunger are real you might change your work ethic. I hope the best for you but this is a dead end road you're heading down. There is no reason you can't work your sales job and do your schooling. Sounds like you have a nice boss that would probably work with you.

Always slacked off before quiting. Or just plain always slack off all the time?

its easier if you just do it all the time

it becomes routine

be like that guy who is like haha when are you dumbasses going to fire me, i don't ever even do anything

you will win the war of the minds as every time you say it they will think he can't be serious, and think you actually do something

hence you will never get fired

also, I have no first hand experience with this, but it is so dumb, it might just work

I'm likely to get a part time job while going to school. Indeed it might help if my parrents kicked me out. It's also likely I'd end up a serious alcoholic and end up in the ER at this point. Though my emotional problems have gotten better so I might do well. Hard to say.

Oh yes. When I've reached the last couple weeks of a job, I almost shut down. Minimal effort goes into just about everything. I don't care if anything gets done.

When I was working at a call center in college, I managed to find a better job elsewhere, but it didn't start for about a month and a half. I put in an honest effort for most of my remaining time there, but once the shitty managers above tried to give us 3x the amount of work with 20 minutes of training, I shut off. If a call would come in on a queue that I didn't want to deal with, I'd simply hang up as soon as it came in.

They cut our pay by up to 25%, and expected us to work our asses off to meet insane performance criteria. If we met these guidelines, we'd earn up to what we were making before they started fucking us over. The guidelines were so out of reach though, it was impossible to do. I decided I'd had it, and spent my last few shifts hanging up on everybody. Sounds like a shitty, ignorant thing to do, but, if you worked for this call center, you'd know. Nobody in their right mind would disagree with me if they were familiar with all their shady practices.

:^D

I prefer to take a more balanced approach. I'll never again kill myself over work. It burns you out, and no one gives a shit. I have a hard time fucking off outright though. I like slow and steady work, and I'm never in a hurry to get more.

meh...if you're not going to do the job for which you get paid...why bother going in at all?

I kinda agree with oilfield...your parents are "enabling" you to be the unmotivated slacker that we see here.
While I'm sure they think they're doing a good thing for you...I think they're hurting your overall development.
As for the alcohol...that's all on you.

What are you going to do when your parents finally die?

I got a new job like 4 months ago, but I'm still stuck at my old job because they can't find anyone to replace me.

I've been slacking off for the past 4 months.

I hope to be out of the house long before they die. I'm planning on going back to school to finish my degree then hopefully move into a real career. Note I'm not saying you are wrong. A lot of people here have said that I'm just slacking off and or lazy, that I'm unmotivated and need a kick in the ass. This may well be true. I know I HAVE received a medical diagnosis of depression and social anxiety from a psychiatrist. Now this could still be chalked up to lack of motivation and drive. It's hard if not impossible for me to judge myself, given I am myself.

Yes but only one time. Was pissed off that many of the workers were being screwed by "selective" policy when the plant that I worked at a few years ago shut down. I finally said fuck it and was pretty much a douche that last week+ and didn't give a shit if anything was done or not.

What type of plant?

Were any of your jobs low level, or were they all "career" jobs. Not saying it should really make much of a difference.

Actually I read the title wrong, thought it said, did any of you's slack off in your job last week

But I've been at the same job 17yrs so far.. so can't remember any "actual" jobs that I had done so.

Sorry

Come to think of it I guess I'm not slacking off horribly, my monthly numbers aren't too too bad.
