Have you seen the new Lancer Evo VIII yet?

I went to the Mitsubishi dealer yesterday to check out the new Evo's... they had 3 in stock, red, black and silver. I couldnt talk them into letting me take one out for a test drive, but i must say that it looked like a sweet car. Recaro seats, momo wheel, brembo brakes... not to mention the turbo running at 19psi giving the engine 270 hp. On paper at least, it looks this car is all there. SO are there any reviews of this floating around? Anyone else gotten to see one up close yet?

It's an ugly Mitsubishi econobox with tacked on power to the rear wheels and 4 doors. Why not use that money for a sports car?

they had the cars in the show room.. they would have let me taken one out if it was on the lot. I'm going to try again later this week.

I've seen them, def. wouldn't pay as much as they are asking for one.

Not much faster than the WRX to warrant the extra thousands, wait for the STI, thats the real choice.

That is not very nice. They are not letting anyone test drive them right now unless you get a special favor or sign the papers.

My friend just bought one, he paid about $3000 over MSRP. It is a very nice car. The AWD made it scream around corners and it really moved fast. It has such a nice interior too, some qualty racing seats, decent sound system, nice gauges. He called all over Florida to find one because they are difficult to find and more difficult to find cheap. The only complaint I could make is the exterior is pretty boxy. Though I suppose the interior/internals more than makes up for it.

The internals don't make up for it when you have available cars like the WRX and 350z.

Looks...well I don't know what I think about them yet.

But for $30k US I think they are a pretty good car in terms of bang for buck at least. I'd personally rather have a 350Z, but those evo's are fast as hell and they take corners like a slut on speed - I think they get something ridiculous like .97 G on the skidpad - better than anything in its price range (350 included).

Lancer Evo VIII? There was no Lancer Evo I-VII in the states... it's just called a "Lancer Evolution".

Anyhoo, these things are obviously fast as hell, but I would probably not blow $30K on one. I don't like the looks of it, myself, and I'd probably go with something a little bigger and more luxurious, even though it would be slower.

For someone that wants pure speed, though, it's a good deal (except when stacked up against the STi).

Edit: forgot about the original question. I did see one up close at the auto show a few months back. Of course, I haven't driven one yet. I do live near a Mitsu dealership and it seems to me they aren't moving very fast off the lot (maybe the dealership is trying to get over MSRP on them).
