Why is that in every scifi movie in last 5 years (except for super-hero movies) the plot is always about the end of the world or some disease wiping out the humanity? Have the writers lost their imagination or is it only because Hollywood knows it's a no-brainer choice?
 
I supsect it is simply that the segment of the population willing to watch movies about actual science is very slim. You can't risk the amount of money a movie costs when you only have a small potential market.
