But wasn't?

It really bugs me when people that I know or meet try to sound all knowledgeable on whatever subject the conversation I'm having with others is on. Can't they just listen and add comments that don't make them look like an idiot? Example: Me and my partner for a project were talking about cars because we have to do a life cycle cost for a bunch of cars for my professor. A guy in my class overheard us and started jumping into the conversation. He started going on and on how his tires are really cheap compared to $90 truck tires. I told him the tires for my civic are about $94 so that is pretty cheap for a truck. He tells me his tires are $30 bucks. I'm like....cool. We get to FI and he tells me that regular superchargers are useless because they require an extra belt. He then tells me that ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGERS work better since it's only attached to the battery.... He also adds in that the electric super charger comes with a chip you plug into your ecu to give you instant 5hp.. Anyways, I told him I heard those don't work at all and asked what he drove. He told me "Ford Escort". Here's a link to the supercharger.

I don't understand why these people can't just listen and learn something before they open their mouth. I'm currently living with a friend who constantly does this too and it is starting to get on my nerves. I built my friend a new system with the 805 (budget), my other friend comes up and asks if it is the P4. He then tells me he is going to upgrade his system to the "Pentium Hyperthread".

Discuss your experiences..

I try to stay far far away from people who are like that. There's no convincing them of anything either.

I have a friend who does that. He is an expert on everything even though he doesn't know sh!t. He will spew some statistic about cars or guns or sports and I normally let it slide but once in a while he will say something so ridiculous that I will challenge him on it and try to get him to put money on it.

The few times I've commented on things that I don't know anything about the blank stares from the people who DID know something about the subject clued me in to the fact that I wasn't being very convincing. In short, it was an easy habit for me to break

No, just stating that when I do have a conversation with someone, those people like to butt in and add useless banter to it. I don't state that I'm an expert on any topic but I do discuss with others about the subjects I do know and stay out of making absurd statements if I don't know what I'm talking about.

Anyways, who cares? Only you. You need to think about why it bothers you so much. If a person constantly tries to sound like an expert, it shouldn't bother you because they are only hurting themselves (it is their credibility on the line, not yours). You need to ask yourself, why it bothers you so much?

I hope a light bulb goes off in his head. I'm tired of him running into my room bragging that he is going to hook up a sub to his car with an amp. While having completely stock speakers.... Sounds like a blanket was put over his speakers. Especially since all he listens to is the radio with his expensive deck. It's like he has something against CDs....

I know this doesn't have anything to do about knowledge, but I thought it might fit in in this thread.

I had a friend growing up named Bricden that claimed his dad (stereotypical construction worker) was either making him and/or paying someone to make him a videogame called "Bricden vs King Kong". After months of that never being release, he then swore it wasn't out yet because they decided to change it to "Bricden vs Godzilla". Hahaha man this guy was the biggest dumbass i've ever met.

i work with them everyday

the other day i had to send out an email to several higher level managers about something. After a couple of hours I get a reply from one of these higher level managers that my email was "confusing and alarmist" and told me to use a template that he made if I had to send the same email in the future. I would be fine with that if the email were confusing, or if he didn't just copy my email and tell me he made a template.

Sometimes it amazes me how some people end up in upper level management.

I almost never talk about cars or sports teams/players (except a little soccer and basketball). It amazes me though that my friends can remember all those facts and figures about a car or a player. Simply incredible. The most I know about cars is how to maintain them (oil change, brake pad change...) and how to play sports.

I love Top Gear though because it is a well produced and entertaining show.
