Have you learned your manual transmissions shift pattern well enough to shift w/o clutch?

yes, its possible, you dont have to clutch for every shift, and it is in no way bad for the tranny at all. you just need to know when to shift the vehicle into. it is easily done on semi, and other large trucks, hell thats the only way they shift except for first. cars are the same way, just have to know your vehicle well enough to do it.

can you?

w/o grinding

Never tried...I'm fine with using the clutch. What you're describing just seems like something you'd do for fun, or to make your penis seem bigger than it really is.

ease of use is all its for, in a semi when your shifting through 8 gears (hi/lo) and they are closely spaced you just shift w/o the clutch, its much faster.

Yup, but don't do it except sometimes from 4th-5th. Can downshift pretty well too.

I'm a fair mechanic (but not a tranny mechanic) and tend to believe that unless the tranny is designed for this it is somewhat hard on the syncrhos (if you blow a shift then it would be definitely hard on them....)

I've read stuff on it, so I know how its done, but I havn't done it myself. I could probally do it if I really really wanted to, but I don't care enough.

out i believe. i was just in the passenger seat and watched the driver, my dad said they always do it, he can do it, and you can also do it on cars, but you have to figure them out.

I've screwed around and done it when I'm bored and cruising. 3rd to 4th, back to 3rd again with no clutch. Meh, I'll stick to using the clutch for regular driving.

Ah, I've only done it from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th. It was initially by accident.
It is a bit harder on the synchros and I really find no use for it.

I did try powershifting though, that worked well. Keeping your foot mashed to the floor while you quickly clutch and pop it into the next gear.

I have done this, but don't make a habit of it. I guess I don't see how it's worthwhile from a risk/benefit standpoint. I do frequently shift into neutral as I'm approaching a red light without the clutch, though - I just give a quick blip of the throttle and pop it out.

My dad used to own a real Shelby GT500, and he could speed-shift at the track w/o ever touching the clutch. I'm gettin' better at it

Done it a few times, but it's just for screwing around and showing-off to other gearhead friends.

I can do it. It's a relatively useless skill in any situation other than your clutch/someone's clutch/your grandma's clutch went and you need to take it somewhere to to get it fixed.
