Have you Jailbroken your iMac yet?

heh, this will only happen when apple finally builds a photoshop competitor. and indesign. THEN they'll start the app approval process... gotta lock out adobe =)

If they did something like this it would kill their desktop offerings. In the very least it would drive me back to linux.

I think it's going to be an App store so you can buy apps and download them or install them the old fashion way. I think it's a needed thing today, if I want a time management app why must I search google? I can just search Apple's App store for it

I think a vetted app store is a great idea. As long as it is not a required idea. Think of how many programmers got started as children writing apps with tools that came with their operating systems.

If they had to pay $99.00 a year and wait for apple to approve their apps I think they would give up. The whole idea ruins education, exploration, and slows down progress as a whole.

yeah but you can't boot the o/s automagically with unsigned drivers - last time i checked windows 2008 series (aka win7/vista) it was pretty serious about this in 64 bit mode.

on the osx front - while an app store is a bonus - you can not lock down the unix o/s - no how - no way.

That is why folks haven't really done much with copy protection in osx - too easy to reverse engineer the o/s itself since its foundation is open source.

they will probably then require an intel Trusted Computing chip to upgrade to osx 10.7 leaving out most of the intel series - maybe even all intel series - if they move to AMD. Could be 10.7 is AMD only 🙂 but that is just rumour too. Those damn intel folks emulating their o/s in vmware and hackintoshin' - can easily get AMD to throw in some j00j00 to stop that once and for all.
