Have you had a DUI

I was arrested for it 34 years ago but I beat it because my blood count was .05 and they didn't test for drugs. I think it cost me $300 at the time for a Lawyer to fight it in court for me. Still was a fucked up experience as I wreaked my car and split my forehead open leaving a scar. I don't get behind the wheel these days even if I had only 1 drink.

I never drive if I have one drink or I don't drink if I know I have to drive.

Nowdays, the rough estimate is usually around ~$10k, once fines, insurance hikes, lawyers' fees, and all the rest are added in.

Yeah, but it was years ago. Went out shooting pool until the bar closed and felt like I was standing around more than drinking. Cop followed me out of his jurisdiction and arrested me in the next town. I went to court and all of the accused were standing in long line in the hallway with their lawyers. I thought to myself, "oops, I didn't think I'd need a lawyer."

So an assistant in the DA's office comes up and looks at my records and asks if I want to plea it down to a DWI, (driving while impaired). I said yes, and went into the judge. I got a $300 fine, had to take some classes and lost my license for three months.

No, but between lawyer fees and fines that often stretch out several years will usually set you back $5000. Then there are insurance costs, some insurers keep the points on your record for 5 years others only 3 years. Plus, it all depends on the cars you insure, probably an increase of $1000 to $1500 per year.

Guess it was a good thing they didn't test for drugs! ;)

Back when I was in my teens & early 20's (70's & 80's) driving drunk was actually an Olympic sport.

I was never arrested, but drove impaired hundreds of times, like close one eye so I wouldn't see double...

Why would anyone admit to a crime as bad as a DUI? Especially in ATOT where the acemcmac news was a really big deal.

So, I'm not going to flame or troll anybody.. but I wouldn't be surprised if someone else does.

Nope, after 30 years of driving. Never had a reason to get drunk if/when I'd be driving to get back home.

Let's see, I didn't wear seatbelts back then
acemcmac hadn't even been born
The last poll I saw bout the demographics here indicates most here aren't of legal age to drink
I don't drink & drive now (haven't for longer than most posters here have been alive)
Your panties are riding up a bit today?

Throws empty beer bottle in jwDollard's general direction & belches...

The high costs come from lawyer fees... which do absolutely nothing for you unless you have an "out". (ie...the cop beat you up, breathalyzer tests were unconclusive)

My mother in law did.

around 2500 in court costs / fines and I think she had a lawyer not sure.

Breath machine in car 1500 to put in
Had to pay to have serviced.
1200 to get machine out after a year.
