I remember seeing these in Popular Mechanics years ago, and it just popped in my head to see if they were still around and THEY ARE!! :D

These things are just too cool and they actually WORK!:

Come on! We got some talent here! ATers unite to build a mini Ferrari F50!

Very impressive stuff...he takes "paying attention to detail" to a whole new level.

I've seen that before, but they never show a picture of the parts. I want to see what the tiny cam, and valves look like.

Bah!! We need a mini model of the 360 Modena Spider. The Ferrari F50 is a cartoonish-looking ugly replacement for the beautiful F40.

WOW!!!

Would it possible to control the throttle/brake/clutch/gearbox/steering via electronics? I mean since no one is small enuff to fit in the car, he could use it as a remote control car. He just has to build a communtication interface. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be hard for a guy you hand made a 0.1L 12-cylinder engine!!!! Can you imagine what the redline on that engine would be? Remeber, the smaller the bore and stroke, the more the engine can rev!

Or he could make a little person sit in the car and he could control the person's movements via electronics.

Wow - that Ferrari is pretty astonishing. I would think that, having built the molds and tooling for this, he would be able to produce the cars in limited production - odd nobody has funded this.

He is now building a 1/3 scale model of the Ferrari P4. Apparently this company has enlisted the Ferrari builder's help in making a Bugatti model as well.

There is/was a company producing 1/10th scale Viper engine models as well. It produced exactly the same hp/liter as the full sized engine, which resulted in 0.45 hp. :D He made them power pencil sharpeners. A .488 in³, 0.45 hp pencil sharpener.

They were freakin' expensive, though, $8,000+ IIRC.

By popular request, here are a couple of links I found in regard to the Ferrari. The builder's name is Pierre Scerri.

Look here and here. The Fine Art Models page is where they talk about his building the P4. You'd think that he would be able to build these things much more quickly if Ferrari gave him the plans, which I would think they would, given the age of the cars (they apparently gave him the plans for the gearbox to the 312PB).

<< If you were 1/3 scale, you would open the door of the car, get in, fasten your seat belt as on the full-size car, take you Ferrari key (engraved identically to the real key) and put it into the ignition. You would flip the toggle switch for the fuel pumps, and with this you would hear the fuel-injection system come to life, powered by a real scale battery built by Pierre. A crew member would stick the hand-held scale starter into the rear transaxle housing and as the engine turned over you would flip the ignition toggle switch and the 12-cylinder engine would come to life with a sound you?d never forget. This 12-cylinder engine just isn?t any 12-cylinder engine, it is a 1/3 scale Ferrari 12-cylinder engine with the same beautiful sound. It took Pierre six months of running the engine on his own dynamometer to tune the header pipes so they would give off the same sound value as he had recorded from the engine of the real car.

And you may ask about reliability. Well, once Pierre had the engine bolted together for the first time, it started on the very first try and since then has logged more than fifty hours of running time with no failures or refusals to start. It probably is more reliable than the real engine.
