Have you ever won anything? Share!

I presume most of us tech board members are smart enough to not play lottery... but have you ever won anything for playing lottery/scratch/sweepstakes/drawings?

For me:

1. My ex and I played $10 scratch just for fun seldomly. One time I won $200 and we split $100 each. Of course the lottery made it back as I probably played more than 10 tickets since 3 years ago.

2. I was a focus group playtester for Bioshock while it was in development. The compensation was $75 for playing for an hour and sharing your thoughts. The lucky 'winner' out of 11 of us get an additional $75. The odds were great. I won it and walked out with $150.

Many years ago - I needed a floppy drive for my A500 [from what I remember they cost about $180 to replace]. Dunno why - but I decided to head up to the dog track [maybe I was sad I couldn't use my Amiga] - never been before and just randomly chose 3 dogs to place [1st, 2nd, 3rd]. To my surprise, the dogs finished in the exact order I picked and I won $250.00. Next day I had a working A500. 🙂

Won a Patriot Box Office from HardOCP...

Only to find out I couldnt have it because I was two weeks late claiming it and they gave it to someone else. I received a PM, but no email. Fuck that site.

I was caller #9. Won Dylan tickets.

I won a bunch of gift certificates at a charity raffle. Participants got tickets based on the amount of money raised. I won eight times in one day. I wasn't even there.

Amigas rock! I have my A2000 on my desk now. 🙂

I won a Palm Pilot once (I think it was late 98). I had no need for it and had just purchased my first house, so I sold it to a guy at work for $200 IIRC. The very next week, it was destroyed when he left it on his living room floor and stepped on it and crushed it. 😀

There are multiple things that I have won.

1) Skullcandy headphones on the homecoming dance night. Worth 75 bucks, sound like 2 dollar POS.
2) $50 gift card for Bed & Beyond. I gave it to my mother.
3) A toy Ferrari F50 in my childhood. It got stolen. I was fucking pissed.

I won a lava lamp from a raffle in elementary school.

I also won like $100 from some contest/raffle thing on the back of a Cap'n Crunch box when I was in middle school. That was pretty freakin' sweet.

I haven't really applied for any contests or anything recently.

Serves you right for hogging all the win :colbert:

I won an ice chest at a company party. It was an igloo 54 quart, the kind with wheels and a pull handle.

13 years later, and I still have that ice chest, but it has not been used in years.

I won a 12 gauge shotgun after buying a $1 raffle ticket at our school's fall festival my senior year.

Why would I play any sweepstakes? As with all ATOTers I make more money than I know what to do with.

I called into the Home Shopping Network and answered a baseball trivia question and won a set of baseball cards.
I also won a bicycle from the local grocery store when I was ~5.

I don't remember any prizes from adulthood... probably because they weren't that exciting.

My college girlfriend and I won a trip to the Bahamas w/cruise back in the day.

Same girl won $500 on lottery scratchoff tickets I got for her as part of a gift.

Won $1,000 from a body transformation contest about 6 years ago. There were only three guys, so chances were very good, lol.

Also, back in the day when the Electronics Expo was not as popular and held in Chicago, I won a free game by just walking up to the game developers booth. My friend was with me and didn't get anything. I laughed at his misfortune.

A few years ago, one of my sons won a remote control car. It was a pretty big nascar car. He ruined it 5 minutes after getting it by running it through water. lol.

I've won lots of little things over the years, but nothing exciting, or memorable. I always pick up scratchoffs when I see them laying around, or on top of a trashcan. I've gotten several that were winners. Usually it's for $1 or $2, but I had a $10 winner once. Not a lot of money, but worth the effort. I get the excitement of gambling, without the risk :^)

Won a bunch of stuff playing poker tournaments held at the bar next to my apartment building in college - couple of chip sets I sold off and a couple of t-shirts (probably the most comfortable t-shirts I've ever had, too). Won $5 or so on the lottery once. I play once in a while when the pot gets big.

One of my HS friends won a truck in a scratch off game, and my brother won $500 twice in the same week on scratch off tickets. Neither of them really buy scratch offs or lottery tickets, just randomly did one day and it worked out for them.

Oh, the office played the Christmas gift swap.. what the fuck was it called where you are given a number and you have the option to keep or steal someone else's gift.

I got the number 2, which is automatically the best number and a guarantee for the best gift in the lot.

The upper management usually sneaks in extra goodies in the pool like iPod/Xbox/concert tickets.

I chose the Justin Timberlake concert tix for my GF as I already owned an iPod and don't play console games.

We went and it was the most generic crappiest concert I've ever been to, filled with preteen girls. The seating also sucked. They were the shittiest seating, why? Because my back was against the stadium wall.....
