I have voted every election except one...I had just picked my 3 year old up from preschool and by the time I got to the precinct, there was a line around the building. I wasn't going to subject him (and me) to the wait. Does it do any good? Obviously a single vote never makes a difference but I don't think you have a right to whine about who is in office unless you vote.

[edit]Every election since I was 18, which has been a while. The first presidential vote I cast was for Paul/Marrou.[/edit]

Yeah I can imagine how crazy it is in big cities, here it's not bad, city of 45k and there are quite a few polling stations so when you go it's in and out in under 15 minutes, especially for advanced polls. But I'd imagine in places like Toronto there is a much greater number of people per station.

They really need to get their head out of their asses and implement a SECURE online voting system. It would probably get way more people voting, especially the younger generation that is still in school, who may not be able to get out to go vote due to having class or other stuff going on. A good way of making it secure is you get an ID on your voting card, and you have to enter it to the site and confirm your personal info. Then you vote, and your vote is then stored in a database table with a hash that is based on the ID, and sent to multiple 3rd party servers with some kind of way to ensure the hash represents a real vote and is not just a manually entered entry. At the end, all servers are compared to make sure no data has been tampered with, then the results are combined with the paper votes. At least, in a nut shell it could work kinda that way, I'm sure there are people who know more than me about security who could come up with an even better way, bottom line is, it could be done, they just don't want to.

Vote NDP. We need to try to get a decent government in office for once.

I voted since I turned 18 (or is 19 the age? I forget). Recently voted in the advance polls.

Not that we have much say in what the government does, but it's better to vote for the lesser of evils than to not vote at all. Not voting is showing defeat.

yes and after of 30 years voting the less evil
greece is in ruins
the options is vote someone new
if both options are bad make a new 3rd that is good

If the voting booths are open I'm there voting and I make sure I'm informed on all candidates prior to showing up. Been doing that for years.

It doesn't matter, even if you had voted your vote doesn't count. Welcome to politics.

NDP actually cares about Northern Ontario, the other parties practically don't even know we exist. Downside is that having a NDP MP means he has no power for us being the opposition. He tries his best, but can only do what he can.

I think door to door mail delivery is one of the hot topics here as well, and NDP will make sure it stays. Almost every second house has a "save door to door" sign on their lawn. Most jobs here are also minimum wage and NDP wants to bring that up to $15/hour.

Door to door... I'd prefer to keep it but good luck getting those mailbox walls installed in my hood. There's barely enough space on the sidewalk for pedestrians and the nearest parks are 10+ minute walks away. Guess you could put them in school yards... and have the kids trash them.

Yes, every year and even if the small municipal elections. Local elections tend to get overlooked but are just as important as voting for president. Your city and county politicians have a much more direct impact on your day to day life than the national elections.

Yeah here there's plenty of room, and personally I don't really care that much if they do switch to them, but way I see it, we pay taxes, Canada Post turns in a profit, there's just no reason for them to remove such a basic service. If they were in the hole I'd say they should maybe just make mail delivery happen once a week, with the option to go pickup your mail at the post office if you are waiting for something you need faster. If they remove the service they wont be lowering our taxes to compensate, but minute they add a new government service later down the line, they sure as hell will raise our taxes.

But security will be an issue, I can picture these getting vandalized, mail stolen etc. I don't get lot of mail but still get the occasional mail that is semi important. That and it will be a pain going to it in winter when the locks freeze up and stuff. Going to be fun trekking through the snow to get my mail, guess I'll just buy snow shoes like a real Canadian. :awe:

Yes. Except when in Iraq and had no ability to. I remember them claiming that "every military member was given the opportunity". Bullshit, never got the chance.

Some do, yes. I did not. We were not on a base, or around anything most of the time. Not every branch of the service, or mission is the same. Just a FYI. We had no option whatsoever to vote.

I vote most of the time. I like complaining and if you don't vote I believe you have no right to complain.

But, I'm CA so in many ways my vote doesn't count.

It's that way for most of the country. There are what about 10 swing states? The rest are pretty solidly one color or the other. Screw you EC.

I vote if I happen to remember on the day of the election. Things seem to stay more or less the same no matter who wins though.

what i hate are all those lesser known positions that you have to vote on. There should be an option for "I don't know who any of these people are". And if enough people vote that way, they need to do another election for them
