Have you ever used the "open" command in IE to navigate to a webpage?

My boss does it all the time, I don't really know why. I guess he doesn't know you can just type in the address bar.

I've seen people type the url in yahoo or google then click on the results page to go to the site...

Funny you say that, i see that happen a lot too. They simply have not been told about the address bar or choose to forget. When they fire up their browser, it's usually portal like yahoo or something similar which has a search engine. I guess it's a good way of doing it if your spelling sucks, otherwise it's a total freakin waste of time.. lol

btw, when the OP said Open Command.. i was thinkin 'Open Sesame' like in Aladin.. I never admit that i talk to my comp !

I guess he prefers the keyboard than using the mouse to click up there. it could be quicker if he gets in a pattern.

Ctrl+O is all I use to open URLs. If I'm typing, anyway, it's faster than moving to the mouse and clicking the address bar. And I don't like Windows Key shortcuts so that rules out anything using it. In short, yes, I use the open command.

Ctrl+D doesn't do anything for me...

When I'm feeling too lazy to move my hand from the keyboard to the mouse, I'll just hit windows key then "r" then type in http://www.whateverurl.com and hit enter.

That's not a bad idea, I usually use my mouse while browsing the web though. I guess I should specify, my boss actually clicks file, clicks open, clicks in the textbox that already has focus, types out the URL, and clicks OK.

I think he meant to say Alt + D

It highlights the address bar so you don't have to manually move the mouse up there and click on it to enter a URL.

oh yeah, and my bosses also do the "go to yahoo.com and type in the url in the search, then click the first result"

I have no idea why...even after I tell them, they still do it

I use it on tech support when people are real idiots...

Also there was a blind guy that couldn't find the address bar (he just used google as his homepage) so I had to use file open for him too.

Its actually not that dumb, if you are good at it, using the run is one of the fastest ways to open anything. That is, i use it all the time to open notepad, cmd window, explorer and other applicatons that are in your system path. Its WAY quicker than using a mouse, specially since while you are typing you dont have to stop and reach for your mouse. One of my friends used to do it, tried it out and lo and behold a year later, i wont switch back. Remember this applies ONLY if you are used to that, then opening web sites this way is one of the fastest ways to do it since you are so used to it. In general I find that people who use keyboard shortcuts are "faster" on the comp.
