Have you ever seen a shuttle launch in person?

I've been wanting to go see a shuttle launch, and I'm just curious to hear what others have thought about them.

It's amazing...there isn't much other way to describe it. I live close enough to see it launch from my balcony.

I rode up to Cocoa Beach for one last summer. It's a little over 30 minutes from where I live so I rode up after work. We can see the smoke from the launch right here at work and from my apartment. They've not done a night launch since I've been here. Not a shuttle, anyway. They did a rocket one night and that was really cool. I hope they do a night shuttle launch sometime again. I'm sure that would be very impressive.

I would like to get a better vantage point one time if they do a launch on a non-workday.

I've seen them from my house a few times, but it's pretty far away so it isn't too impressive, but You can definitely tell that it is a rocket going up.

Yeah, I went twice as part of a summer internship exchange thing. The first time they scrapped the launch. The second time, it went up.

Sitting in the sun for a few hours, steam, rumbling, seeing the shuttle through binoculars. It's very similar to what you see on the TV except for the sitting in the sun until they scrap the launch, sitting in the sun until they do launch, and feeling the rumble go through your body.

The tour through the visitor complex stuff is more interesting than seeing the launch.

I was stationed in Orlando in '85, so I went down and watched one. It was the earlier years so it may have been more exciting, but it was something.

I also saw it land at Edwards (not the same one, lol) many years later, that was more impressive to me. Hearing the sonic boom and watching that thing fall like a stone until they leveled out and glided in for a perfect landing.
