I'm considering it in a few years, I could only run about 6 miles at a time though, only 20 miles to go lol.

Hey, let's get accurate here: 26.2 miles. :)

I'm hoping to Run the Rock in Dallas this December. I'll be using "The non-Runner's Marathon Trainer" book.

Sure...er..I've saw my DAD run the marine corp marathon for many years.

Hell, trying to find out where they were with binoculars was tiring enough:p

Longest competitive race I've done was the 20k (12.4 miles) Chicago Distance Classic. I just don't see any compelling reason ever to run a marathon other than to say "I did it".

For training I regularly have run 14 miles and that takes a lot out of you. I just can't envision the abuse you put on your body doing another 12+ miles on top of that.

The farthest I've ever run was 10 miles. It was during a perfect synergy of weather, energy, and time. I've never done it again.:(

I ran the California International Marathon In December in 4 hours 21 minutes. I plan on running it again this year. Im shooting for 4 hours.

It was actually pretty rough. the first 2-3 hours were okay, but then I started getting a lot of calf tightness and had to slwo waay down which sucked. The last half mile was my fastest though... I cant wait to do it again.

It's not something I care enough about to actually try, so I doubt I could do it.

However, the guy that owns one of my favorite coffee shops runs 100 mile races in 24 hours on varied terrain.

I ran the New York one when I was 19 because my uncle always ran them and wanted to run at least one with me before he got too old. I completed it in 4 hours and 53 minutes (about average for my age then). I will never run one again, but not because it was too hard (training for it was a lovely challenge, recovery was tough though from the marathon itself and some of the long (18, 19, and 22 mile) training runs close to the marathon), but because my focus has always been on weight lifting and a five to ten mile run for me at a quick pace is enough for me.

I will never forget though pulling my socks afterwards back at the hotel room, my skin on the bottoms of my feet came off with them, my toenails also turned black and fell off mostly and had to regrow. I had to cover my feet with vaseline every night and morning until they healed.

Ultra-marathons. Those people are just insane.

I'm sure, over the course of my school career, I ran at least that far. Just not all at once :p

I'd like to run one (NYC of course would be best) but I have too many cycling goals ATM to do that much running. I'm comfortable running 5-6 miles just below my lactate treshhold, so I don't suppose it would be a huge stretch to start extending the mileage. I worry about joints breaking down though (I've never had the best knees, ankles etc) from the extra running.

No, but my wife has run the L.A. Marathon twice. She also runs 3 or 4 half marathons each year.
