This is from tipping the cable guy thread where somebody mentioned writing a letter to management if the guy does a really good job.

Have you ever praised a random person for good service to their bosses.

Most people seem to only go up and 'tell' when there is something wrong or they dont receive good service or something.

The only time I did this was when I got extraordinary service at a restaurant. After dinner, I personally went and found the manager and told him that the server and the service were the best I have ever had.

How about you? Have any incidents where you truly said something good about someone you dont know at all just because you were pleased with the way they did their job or with the way they treated you?

Yes.

My mom, brother, and I were flying to London to meet up with my dad who was there on a business trip. All flights to Chicago were cancelled where we needed to go so we went back to the counters. I made the lady check for flights through many places and none were available. I told my mom let's wait some time so we stayed there, got our luggage and ate some food. Then we went back when it was all empty and there were one or two people working check in.

This man at the couner helped us and got us tickets for the next day. We thanked him and I immediatly told my dad we need to write a letter praising him. My mom, brother, and I had been out since the morning to get a flight and now it's night and this man helped us get flights for the next day, something the other lady didn't.

When we were flying back though, just by chance he was holding the door open for people coming out of the plane, my dad took a minute and thanked him. My dad wrote a letter complimenting what he did because if he hadn't done it, we would have stayed at home all break and my mom wanted to go somewhere because she's always at home.

I think if someone gets you out of a tough situation even if that's their job, they deserve a compliment

Yes.

Recognition is very important and I appreciate it whenever I am recognized.

Me and both my parents purchased new glasses from Lenscrafters in a 6 month period last year. Each time we were helped by the same girl, who was tremendous help. We probably spent 6 hours there total. Afterwards, we write a letter to the corporate office. We end up doing that once every year or so.

My girlfriend does this kind of thing all the time. She called our pizza place a couple of times, just to compliment the guy (owner operated).

We now get extra stuff on our pizza for free!
