So it's turned around in the pic in the OP so you can't see the connector for the power cord?

IBK (In Before Kaido)

LOL. :D I like it.

IBK.

I own a flat bottom wok and enjoy it. Haven't used it in a while, but my go-to meal in it is beef & snowpeas. Also has some water chestnuts, garlic, & oyster sauce.... thrown over a plate of rice. Deliciousness!

nope but my gas burners are not high power or big either.

Also it would not fit in the cabinets.

Also what's the difference if you're not achieving wok he anyway?

Besides, this looks like it's a big trend in the US, but not much here.

Dangit I was napping at work, why did you summon me?

Okay fine...OP, buy this:

http://eleanorhoh.com/wok-star-kit/

Season using flaxseed oil using this procedure:

http://sherylcanter.com/wordpress/2010/01/a-science-based-technique-for-seasoning-cast-iron/

If you don't have a gas stove, buy this:

http://www.amazon.com/Iwatani-Corporation-America-ZA-3HP-Portable/dp/B006H42TVG/

I have that one, it gets my wok (from that lady's kit linked above) up to 900F+. Works awesome. Her kit includes a great cast-iron wok (had mine for years), bent spatula, lid, spices/sauces, and training video. Best system on the market, can't beat it - shows you a good workflow & gives you everything you need to make awesome meals. Bonus if you get that little gas stove, you can cook outside (very portable) & also use it when the power goes out. They sell butane gas packs at Asian grocery stores for pretty cheap if you don't want to buy them off Amazon. Now go forth & make delicious, healthy food! /zzzz

If your gas burners are sissy, get a Wokmon:

http://www.wokmon.com/

Although for less than 50% of the cost, I recommend getting the butane burner I mentioned in the last post. You can take it camping, tailgating, etc. too, which is nice. $35 shipped: (vs. $80 for the wokmon)

And yeah, that's my only real complaint - woks are freakin' huge! I leave mine on the portable burner with the lid & spatula, and then put it away as a set - saves a bit of space, at any rate.

Yeah, we keep our Tiger fuzzy-logic rice cooker going pretty much 24/7. Makes quick meals a LOT easier, especially since a lot of Wok meals only take like 5 minutes & taste super good. Plus, jasmine & basmati rice makes your house smell like the bomb

flat bottom woks you can but you get better results with gas.

I use a portable stove when I use my wok,

http://eleanorhoh.com/stove/

I have a different brand but similar.

Yeah, I think the ideal setup is a thin, quality cast-iron wok with a round bottom & a high-temp gas burner, but my friend has a flat-bottomed electric wok & she makes some seriously awesome food in it, so...whatever you can get is better than nothing

shitloads of wood charcoal + this = success?

I have one of those as well. Except it has holes in it like a colander.

Someone gave it to me. I use it to make fajitas on the grill. Pretty much all it's good for since it can't hold any liquid.

I mentioned to you I recently bought some jasmine. I guess I'll have to pull out the wok this weekend.

had a wok, never used it... ended up donating it to Goodwill when we moved last spring.

I'd just as soon use a cast iron or stainless steel pain for anything I'd cook in a wok.

I like the wok cause it's tall. Makes it easy to segregate food for faster/slower cooking. I can pile it in, whereas in my cast iron(my most used kitchen item), the stuff won't fit.

no, we're chinese but we don't often cook foods that need it. Italian rules most weeks.

The country of your origin makes some damn good food my friend. ;) But I'm wondering if our Chinese is the same as over there? I go to this one take out place and they are deeeeeelicious! I love Mexican food too. But for some reason I've been on an Asian kick lately.

My house smelled like the bomb from the ginger and soy sauce, etc from making the Filipino chicken skewers. Still have left overs! :p

There's like 10 distinct regional styles that are then bastardized for american tastes. Unless you live in SGV or Flushing (or TO or Vancouver)...

chinese/thai is also an authentic cuisine, much like chinese/vietnamese, chinese/indian, and chinese/american.

but you want real sichuan food? You go to Flushing, Rowland Heights, or Sichuan.
