Have you ever owned an ECS K7S5A mobo? Would you recommend it?

This is a hotly discussed topic over in The Other Thread so I was curious to see how the stats would come up.

Makes no difference to me now since I already ordered it but it may to others 🙂

So here it is, (Pabster & Workin' 😉 ) the poll you've all been waiting for...

Yep, I have it and I like it. No problems. Inexpensive. Easy to set up.

That said, I'm getting out of here before I need a flame suit.

Well, I'll be. This is my kinda poll 😀

I think you'll find the vast, vast majority of users are 100% satisfied with K7S5A. There's just a small, but vocal, minority which like to trash both ECS and SiS for unknown reasons.

I personally own 3 now, have used tens in customer builds, and seen tens of more in action. It's simply the best price/performance ratio money can buy right now.

My K7S5a has been stable and fast since I set up my system. Aside from the weak overclocking options (running 1400@1450 - 138mhz fsb) and 2 DDR slots, I don't have any complaints. I can't expect that much more for what I paid! 😀

I use one in my LAN box, fricken great board.

I have make 14+ systems with it though, all with different OSs, CPUs, eveyrthign. All 100% perfect

How can I tell what rev. mb I have?? Would I have to boot up the mainboard to find out??

At Fry's last evening, they had tons of these mb with Duron 1000 for $89 bucks so I picked one up. It came with the morgan chip...

Do the old rev. mb have any problems running the new Athlon XP's????

I've setup one and used it, Pain to setup hardware-wise, pain to setup the OS on it when it was running... the board sucked.

What did you do to OC your CPU/FSB? I knew this board wasn't an OCer's dream when I bought it, but my Athlon XP's runnin' so cool I might just like to try bumping it up just a tad.

Thanks,
Jason

Well, I won't trash SiS, but ECS... that's another story. And Pabster's never been vocal in his VIA trashing! That's the pot calling the kettle black!

At this moment 23% (5/22) of the people who have owned this board would not recommend it. Hardly seems like a "small minority" or a ringing endorsement of this miracle product!

LOL 😀

As if the poll here constitutes all owners of K7S5A.

Let's look at similiar polls for other boards... Time to start some new ones 🙂

Get the hacked bios for it. It allows for fsb adjustment.
All of the ones I've worked with do 150 without a prob given good ram.

Gotta link to that bios for the rookie?

Thanks,
