Have you ever missed class/called into work sick because you were up too late gaming?

I started playing World of Warcraft this past weekend, and really didn't know what I was doing at first. i.e. I fought with a "sharpened letter opener" my first 5 levels. Anyway, last night I started playing around 9pm and met up with a group (I mostly played alone the first 7 levels). I didn't realize how much better it was to play with a group until last night... or how much more addictive it would be. One of the group members was very nice and kept making me and the other group member bags, giving us silver, resurrecting us, etc.

About 8 hours later, I realized I had to get up for work in 3 hours. It was hard signing off, and I almost decided to call in sick today... but ended up deciding to come in because it's such a busy week. I feel dizzy/sick right now... and am probably going to do it again tonight.

Has anyone else ever missed class/called into work sick because you were up too late gaming? If so, how often?

Yes. It was years ago when I was still playing ASCII MUDs. I've learned better self-control and time management since then.

don't succumb tomato.

They should call that game World of WarCrack.

I've stayed away from games since working.

I had an English TA at the University of Michigan who would come in bleary-eyed to class, blaming MUDs. Those were RPG's online via text only, I think?

Missing class is one thing, but missing work is quite another. You can make up class time but seriously man by skipping out on work you just paid even MORE money to play WoW.

heh, i called in sick the day the game came out just to pick up my reserved copy at gamestop. 🙂

which server do you play on, tomato?

I can't stop. 🙁 I've even talked to my fiance about having him build me a computer of my own (or another one for himself/I take over the other one) so I can play alongside him. We don't have the finances right now, otherwise it's very tempting.

not if you're on salary, which means you're getting paid while you play. just dont do it too often.

Nice... 😀 We ended up paying full price at Gamestop, $49.99+ tax this past weekend. I play on Zul'jin, I am a Level 11 Rogue Dwarf named MikeJade. 🙂

Yah, but then you're messing with an ethical question. Calling in sick is one thing but taking a personal day to something you decided to do is quite another. I guess I'm the one person who has never called in sick for anything. 😛 I've definately used my personal days though.

On weekdays, I control my gaming as much as possible, to avoid that. On weekends though... not so much. 🙂

So, I've never called in because of gaming, but there've been times when I just don't want to wake up. Like this morning.. and probably tomorrow morning too.

But, one guy I know.. I think he does this occasionally. Like, missing a monday to do 'schoolwork'.. I have the feeling it's because he was up too late, but it doesn't bother me since I'm not losing money off of it.

Work? No. But I've ditched class plenty of times, mostly because the professors make themselves redundant and/or useless as they usually just read from the powerpoint presentations they make up.

I have called in sick to work because I was up too late one night. It wasn't anything I could avoid -- had to pick up my Dad from the airport at 2am, lest he be stranded there all night, and was supposed to be at work at 7am -- so as far as both I and my boss were concerned it was actually an illness. I didn't take sick leave, just LWOP, but it still wasn't an issue.

I always take the days off surrounding the Guildwars beta testing as I pull a 72 hours striaght.

Diablo 2 lost me my g/f

DoaC lost me my Job

Horizons was shite

EQ 2 was shite
