Have you ever loaded a PDF and Acrobat NOT beg you for an update?

I swear, this software just creates its own updates all the time. The damnable program is constantly trying to update and if you miss its dialog, you can often not have any idea why the pdf isn't loading; the dialog can be behind other windows and doesn't spawn an entry in the task bar so you're left looking like a one-legged monkey at a Christmas concert wondering why you can't play the tambourine.

I think they are trying to keep up with Java.. I swear there is a JRE update every 11 seconds.

I tried switching to Foxit reader at work but for some reason it doesn't like to open the PDFs that our scanner creates.

The Adobe Reader update today was painful on my slow work machine. Took way too long!!

I was using Foxit exclusively but have recently switched to PDF-Xchange. I get the speed and portability of Foxit but it is a little better at handling forms. Updates are manual also so I don't have to worry about that either.

You can turn off the auto update feature. In fact I do this with every software that I install. JRE too.

Yes, I have had it not beg me for an update. But then again, I'm using Acrobat Pro with CS3 on OSX. And I use Acrobat pretty much a dozen times a day or so.

One time my computer wouldn't start after an Adobe Reader update. I actually had to get IT to do a full system restore because of that pile of fuck software.

"Install updates now?"
...No, and Don't Remind Me Again
*10 minutes later, when I'm in the middle of typing*
"INSTALL UPDATES NOW YA?"
...No. WTF, are you retarded? We just went through this, Adobe. Fuck off.
*3 minutes later*
"I can't hold out any longer <UserName>, I'M INSTALLING THIS SHIT"

I haven't run into any problems and been required to install acrobat yet...

Yeah that's pretty damn annoying. I build the images here at work and I make sure the updates are set to off. Who do they think they are? I've never once seen an update that's added\changed something significant... pretty stupid.

For some reason, that is probably the only program that I don't update. When I have to look at a PDF it's usually because I'm on a mission to find some information and I will let NOTHING stand in my way.

Acrobat never begs me for updates. I don't have Acrobat installed since foxit is better.
