Have you ever heard of Direct Buy?

My younger sister called me this afternoon after attending a Direct Buy open house. I've never heard of the place, but she says they sell home stuff at "manufacturer pricing". Her husband and her just bought a new home in Phoenix, and they're looking for furniture and stuff.

She says they have nice stuff, and she thinks their prices are really good. There were two problems, though. First, she says they have a membership fee of $4000! Yeah! Four THOUSAND dollars. Second, the info session was about ninety minutes long for them, and they had to decide right there on the spot whether they wanted to join. Once they left, the wouldn't be allowed to come back unless they were members.

Sounds scary. I've never heard of this place at all. Anyone else know about it??

lol, i know a guy who did this. he payed the 4000, and i think then you get unlimited access to the store. but, he never bought a single thing! i guess everything was garbage? he's an idiot though. he basically flushed that money down the drain

I saw an infomercial for that last night. They were bundling the membership with some "free" media about how to resell on ebay using their stuff and not holding an inventory of your own. People were making $14K/week! I signed up on the spot! /sarcasm

yeah, I'll join.

Their radio commercials (Chicago area) pretty much say that if you have big projects (like home remodling) on the horizon, you can pretty much make up the membership costs and more.

They aren't trying to compete with Sam's or Costco, they're pretty clear that your savings will come from large expendatures (many appliances, Big A/V, furniture, etc) building supplies, etc.

One of the more frequent examples sited are large (50"+) plasma HDTVs starting at US$3000.00 ... something like that.

FWIW
