Incubus.

There is a big difference between actually seeing them live and listening to a live recording. It sounds totally different when you're actually there. They opened at a concert a few years ago and they actually sounded comparable to on their cds.

I was actually there and they weren't that good.

Saw Aerosmith twice in the last 4 years and both shows were excellent. Guess they were sober.

Best sounding concert in my 20 years of shows would be the Eagles about 2 years ago. They had the sound and vocals spot on.

Worst concert ever was Creed. You couldn't even hear the vocals and Scott was wasted. It was the first concert I ever left before it was over.

Incubus put on one of the best shows i've ever seen (July 4, 2002)! Another Incubus concert coming up this September *excited*

This person isn't really a band but Avril Lavigne has an alrite voice on her CD, but her voice goes to sh!t when she sings live (talk shows, etc.), my $0.02.

cheers,
KiM

They rocked Warped Tour when I saw them. And (I think) Fat Mike was blitzed at the time. Pity it was only a half hour set.

The band that stood out there though was Flogging Molly. Oh, and Lagwagon. Both of them sound 8-billion times better live, and then when you go back and listen to the recorded music it somehow sounds better as well.

Haven't really been to any concerts where the band was just awful. Guess I'm lucky.

Was it recent or a long time ago?

modest mouse. i've seen them twice, because i'm stupid and stupidity is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result. the first time, they were dull, lifeless, and the sound was so bad that i left early. the second time, the sound was ok, but they were still dull and lifeless. then the flaming lips came on and kicked their asses back to the stone age. the flaming lips were awesome live, i don't know what that other poster was tripping on (or maybe he wasn't, and that was the problem).

but modest mouse is one of my favorite bands on CD, i have all their albums and love them to death.

other bad live bands: deftones (OMG they are so bad live), RHCP, blink 182, alkaline trio, the appleseed cast, the mars volta (sorry, 30 minutes of guitar feedback and tight pants is not a show).

great live bands: portishead, tool, radiohead, thursday, smashing pumpkins. sigur ros, dave matthews band (not a big DMB fan anymore, but no denying they are a solid live band)

keep in mind i don't expect bands to sound like they do on the album. if you know anything about making albums, you know it is impossible for most bands to replicate the CD by themselves live, but that doesn't mean it sucks, just that it's different and you need an open mind for a new experience

edit: i saw incubus touring on make yourself and it was a solid set, they blew away the deftones. they have really gone downhill IMO though.

I was pretty disappointed with Rusted Root when I saw them live.
George Thoroughgood does a "good" show except it's very scripted, so if you see another show....it's the same.

WHOA! I thought rusted root was awesome live.

Evanescence has a great cd expecially when you dont listen to the radio where they overplay the music. Amy Lee's voice is god awful live though.

The Mars Volta, the cd was alright, i've heard some songs recorded live and they were pretty bad.

I saw deftones and incubus in that same tour. Deftones were pretty lame, my friend i left a little early, he sounded like he had been breathing helium. But Incubus was pretty good, and yes they have gone downhill a lot.

I know they suck now, but Lifehouse showed promise back when I first heard their music. They had a couple of decent songs and I thought everything sounded great on the album. I went to see them play live and it sounded EXACTLY like their album. There was no improv and the whole set was played in 28 mins flat. THEY SUCK.

Not to mention, their songs are tiresome....*yawn*

stole my post ;) I love their albums, but their live show sucked. saw them in philly in '02... the only good part is that I didn't have to pay for the tickets. heh. my (then) girlfriend's best friend is a DJ on Y100, and he got us all free tickets for the show.

I saw Radiohead live in Liberty State Park in the summer of 2001. That was a pretty crappy concert as well... probably the only concert I've ever been to where the opening bands sounded better than the headliner.

bands that were awsome live: Marilyn Manson, Weezer, Bon Jovi (I'm not even a fan of their music, but it was another concert that I got into for free, and the show kicked azs). Simon and Garfunkle was probably the greatest concert I've ever been to in my entire life. Outside of the fact that I was bawling my eyes out for the first half hour of the show, it was just a really, really great concert. Well worth the $500 that I paid for the two tickets.
