Have you ever had a professor try to humiliate you in front of the class?

I had such an experience today when I said in class that I don't think that the connection betweeen human activity and global warming is as strong as many people claim. He basically laughed at me and got the rest of the class to laugh to laugh at me as well. I should have told him that I have driven a Prius for the past two years (a car that emits very little CO2), and then asked him what he was doing to combat global warming (the answer to which is probably "nothing").

You made the mistake of discussing religion. That is a NO-NO along with discussing politics. Crap, you discussed both!

The sooner you realize most professors took the job to inflate their egos, the better off you'll be.

Time to see the Dean...

Go to you Administration Office, too...

I would raise all hell...if I had said something...

I would have just shut up and not say anything...

I dozed off in a class and the professor spent the entire rest of the class asking me questions throughout his lecture. It was quite embarrassing, but I deserved it.

Don't stand for his ultra-liberal bullcrap. You're right, the connection isn't strong- at all. I just wrote a column on this for my newspaper.

But that's all beside the point. Professors should NOT humiliate students, especially on political matters. I don't see how colleges have turned into such a circle jerk.

Remember, he's employed by you (by proxy), not the other way around. I'd raise hell.

(Note: I'd be just as angry if colleges were a conservative circle jerk).

tons of professors berate students
I once had to keep asking a professor to get the online site for our book working for us (you have to register your class with the book company, and we paid extra for the online site in the book price, but he hadn't set it up) finally he set it up, and when he announced it to the class he said...

"One student wanted me to do this so I did, and I'll let you guys use it too, even though I think you all have enough resources already in the book and with what I give you, who knows why he wanted this useless stuff, but here it is"

He also made some other comments in there about how we'd be fools to overwhelm ourselves with so much information.
I even told him I just wanted it because they offered an E-book on the website and our book is several thousand pages long/thick....

Another time he started calling a student a liar and a thief when he misplaced an exam saying "In my 40 years of teaching I've never ONCE lost an exam so you must be LYING OR CHEATING!" while pointing in his face and yelling at him, but the guy was calm which I can't believe I would have been arguing with him.

Anyways in the next section they found his test, it got mixed up, I hope the student demanded an apology.

oh well, he's a decent teacher just sometimes gets on his high horse.

lol professor tried to humiliate me once because i made a comment about his tirade against paper companies and tree clearing, and i pwned him with a simple "trees grow back" and everyone erupted so he couldn't really make a comeback.

it takes a lot to go against the majority.

Either a lot of intelligence, or a lot of stupidity. Just make sure you are the former rather than the latter.

heh another time i had a professor of greek descent who was really into greek stuff (it was a stats class) and he would always pick me to ask questions and i finally answered "it's all greek to me" and the class erupted. not really pwnage but got me a couple girls' numbers.

and another professor who was FOB who always asked "is it clear" and I would answer "crystal" really loud every time he said that. he was too FOB to realize anything, got a few chuckles from class.

yea, i was the class clown.

One time, i posted on a class forum (supposed to be anonymous) that I wasn't learning anything in this comp sci class (software engineering). The professors replies to my post by my first name, yeah he looked it up. Then he posts a portion of the code I had submitted and starts ridiculing me about it and referring to it as 'crapola'. Yeah, his words. This guy went to MIT, too. Needless to say, I dind't reply or he'd prob start grading my work personally.

Moral of the story is that most professors can't teach, have no integrity and can't be relied on.

Yeah, a programming intro prof didn't like me for whatever reason so he gave me sh!t all the time. Finally he pushed me too far and I went off on him, gave him sh!t for constantly drooling like a dog over this one girl who was in the class (which he did) and how he should be ashamed since he was at least 3 times her age. Prof vs. student, you can guess who won that argument :p I ended up with a D despite being the best student in that class full of idiots led by the grand high Idiot, the prof.

A friend going to community college had a professor who also taught at a really good school (i forget which, it's been a while). He said the guy constantly made fun of everyone in the class for being stupid community college students.
