Have you ever gotten a 'COBRA' form from your employer?

I'm worried because my current employer has given us these 'warning papers'. Most of my co-workers are also worried. Are these just "FYI" papers, or is management trying to tell us something?

What is your experience with this?

I've not heard of a company giving you hints that you are fired in advance. Usually it's the opposite - they wait until 3pm on a Friday so that you can't do irreparable harm to anyone/thing on your way out the door.

There are no signs. Sometimes you can see it, sometimes you can't.

When I got laid off, they gave me 3 weeks notice.

I worked for 6 years at my last job. On 1/2/06 I walked in and I was laid-off without even a minute notice. I was never offered COBRA coverage.

If I ever got a deadly snake from an employer I'd take it as a hint that they'd like me gone.

Did your company change insurance companies or drop its insurance recently? If not then you have been dropped from their insurance, meaning you're fired!

allows you to continue to stay on your company's medical plan but you pay the cost, there is not subsidizing of the cost. if you're signal and in good health, definitely get coverage on your own. it will save you A LOT of money.

My previous company gave out a form that stated the laws and regulations of using COBRA in the event that was laid off/fired/resigned. I think there's probably some policy that states employers need to remind their employees every so often. Who knows. All I know is that I wasn't fired/terminated/laid off after I was given it. Although, I did quit that shithole a few months later.

When my insurance ran out after being off work for nine months, I got the COBRA form from the union.

Our full-coverage Health & Welfare coverage, (Medical, Dental, and Optical) required 110 hours per month, which was paid in at about $5/hour...or $550/month...COBRA coverage was $1300/month!

It may be that they are thinking of changing your health insurance plan, or dropping it.

Who was your employer? I thought COBRA coverage was mandated by law for companies with more than 20 employees that offered health plans. Of course, you wouldn't be offered COBRA if you hadn't been enrolled in the health plan to begin with or something.
