Have you ever failed to submit a rebate?

See OP for accurate question.

Have you ever bought an item with intent to submit its associated rebate, but did not because of your own fault? (e.g., forgot, retroactively decided it wasn’t worth your time, got busy, etc.)

NOT if you have actually received appropriate compensation, but whether you have upheld what you were ostensibly supposed to do.

I despise the entire concept of a mail in rebate, and I refuse to purchase products that have them.

If I ever buy anything with a rebate it's a coincidence. I've submitted some, but not all. If anything I'll avoid products with rebates (unless it's the cheapest even w/o rebate).

yes, last motherboard i bought. i thought i had 30 days from the time i bought it, but there was a separate deadline that passed a couple days before i sat down to fill it out

you always always gotta do the rebate ASAP

like really ASAP, if you want the $

I rarely buy items with rebates anymore, but, when I did, I have always submitted them.

However, there was a time when the fulfillment companies must have had a policy of losing mine as I got screwed out of at least three rebates.

There is a sweet spot between making sure the item works/you don't want to return it and when it is late in the game to send in your rebate.

I always waited about 2 weeks unless the deadline was less than 30 days.

I have submitted every single rebate that I was eligible for (and maybe a few that I wasn't eligible for! :hmm:). With that said, of the hundreds (if not over a thousand) rebate, I have received every single one. The one that I had the most trouble with was a $30 from Office Depot for something (don't remember). I went up the chain of command at OD HQ until a special check was cut for the $30. Remarkable enough, the $30 check from the original rebate was mailed.....4 years later (no, I didn't return it! :awe:)

So far...batting 1.000

I've probably forgotten to submit every single rebate I've ever purchased an item for.

I just surf Slickdeals etc. now - laziness wins :D

To bad what is needed to send in for the rebate is sometimes needed for warranty purposes. :(

Yes, so since then I started to ignore savings by rebate if its under $50. So a $80 hard drive with a $15 rebate is still a $80 hard drive for me.

The whole point of offering rebate is so companies can catch the lazy people who forget to send their rebate in. That way, they get more money!

More times than I can count. I am one of the worlds worst procrastinators and Ive bought many things like DVD players, cell phones and video cards with $25-50 rebates and always put the paperwork aside and swear Ill get to it later.

Actually the only one I actually got in on time was the one for my Sapphire 5870 last year. Which is ironic too cause that was the most complicated bunch of forms and directions I ever had to follow. The ones for cell phones that you just send in a copy of the receipt, well I couldnt be bothered with that. Yeah, Im a moron. Probably why Im broke all the time.

I've never missed one that's greater than $50 or more, but ones for $10 or so I have forgotten to do, especially if the window to mail it in is less than 30 days.

I never actively seek out rebates, in fact, I despise the damn things. But if it's a good deal to start with, I don't have a problem getting free money a few months later.

Yep...several times, but I generally don't factor in the rebate value when I make a purchase. Either the selling price is good enough by itself, or it's not. The rebate, IF it ever arrives, is just icing on the cake.

If I don't do it ASAP, I usually forget about it. Same thing with those product registrations to get extra time on your warranty.

Yes but I never buy a product based on it's price after a rebate. I always assume I'll never get it whether due to my own fault or just getting screwed by the company.
