...while on a freeway just want to dive into the gravel median and start passing people Baja style?

I know that'll be the death of me some day. What other stupid driving stunts do you have dreams of pulling off?

There is one spot on my way home where it seems everyday two cars pull out onto the 2 line highway at the same time. And you guessed it, they proceed to take up both lanes. So I have to go baja on them.

There's a particularly dangerous section of freeway I travel on my way to work everyday. There's an exit to a major street just a couple of 100 yards down from a 2-freeway convergence. So you constantly get asswipes darting across 4 lanes of 70mph freeway to get off at this exit. It's amazing how often you see people slam on their brakes at this section of freeway.

There was a major tie up one time. Many cars were fed up and driving in the breakdown lane to get to the next exit. Some would try and cut back in just before (or after) the exit (y'know they were scamming--those dirty bastards!). This of course P.O.'s all the folks legally and patiently waiting in line to get past the accident.

Well, finally I was tired of waiting myself and although I generally don't pull that illegal maneuver, and it annoys me when others do it. I was tired of waiting, and watching, and waiting, and watching (etc) so I decided I would that day. (NOTE: I was getting off at the exit, not cutting back in up ahead).

Now the fun part is that some of the annoyed folks were blocking the breakdown lane because they felt they were now enforcers of the law or just wanted to annoy us as much as we were annoying them. But there was plenty of unpaved road to the side of that. I and a bunch of others just drove around them, baja style. I wasn't in a truck, just your everyday FWD econobox. It was a bit bumpy, but I was going slow (20mph max) and actually enjoyed driving by the breakdown lane blockers. I'm sure they thought they were winning because we had to go offroad, but, really, it made no difference to me. No problems to my car, saved probably another halfhour of stop and go. Didn't obstruct any ambulances in the process.*

Ironically, the breakdown lane blockers were posing a bigger problem than those of us driving along, as, if an ambulance / emergency vehicle was needed to get there at least the other cars were MOVING... they were making the traffic worse by blocking that lane.

*no emergency vehicles came by the half hour I was already waiting AND there was the exit/entrance before the accident so they could get to it via another on-ramp, etc, so it was likely a non-issue. Not that it makes what I/we did right.

there are a-holes that always take the emergency lane when i'm on my way to school during traffic.
they go all the wya to the front and cut in..
sometimes i feel like screwing with those a-holes and turn into an a-hole myself.
I just ride right in the middle of the line.. so they can't get in front of me.. yet the lane i'm suppose to be in is right behind me..
I do get occasionally honked but when they do ... the bird just flies~ ;)

with the increase in the prevalence of road rage...you might look into additional insurance coverage...

During some construction work on a part of the interstate just outside of downtown, people would jump into the emergency lane and get off at an exit. Several times I would see a car flying down there and then they'd pass a police car that was sitting in traffic. The cop would pull into the emergency lane, flip on the lights and pull the driver over. :D

In my years of driving I only got to witness that one time. A bunch of folks were in the breakdown lane and the next thing I know like 10 cops are suddenly driving down pulling folks over. Was a sweet sweet day. (Mainly cuz I wasn't breaking the law that day). :D

Back in high school in my friend's '79 Rabbit, we passed a semi by using the shoulder :Q

About crapped my pants.

I don't just want to: I actually have gotten up on the median to pass people dozens of times, perhaps even hundreds if you count the times using the median to get into an empty left turn lane when the straight lane before the left turn lane is jammed. And no, I've never had an SUV, I do this in a Ford Escort, and have noticed that most SUV drivers are afraid of even the smallest speed bumps.

Even if its one of those raised sidewalk type medians instead of just gravel. Of course, when I got an oil change, the mechanic did ask if my car was rolled over during the hailstorm because of all the dents on the bottom.

ACK!! There are two major intersections here that have right-turn-only lanes and when the cross street traffic is turning left, one can freely turn right even w/o stopping as there is no one coming straight (as all traffic is turning left). But, people will sit and sit and sit until all traffic has stopped turning left and then one car scoots out and by then the straight-thru traffic is coming.

I HATE that!

Every decent-sized intersection should hae a right-turn only lane AND have that little green arrow light for the morons who lack the capacity for original thought.

So the breakdown lane/emergency lane is just the shoulder?

Around here on busy highways if you take the shoulder it is grooved in such a way it is LOUD and vibrates the car like a mofo. I don't know if you guys have that...

People who take the shoulders are bastards though...they just ain't wide enough to go whipping down in a big assed truck..

There is an exit on my way to gym where lane markers discontinue for a few feet as the road turns and then start again. And guess what, every dumbass misses his lane and shifts one lane to the left, thus pushing the guy in the leftmost lane (that's where I'd be) onto the shoulder. How freaking hard is it to get in the right lane???
