I have....

I dropped a Dell Latitude C510 i used to own from about 4 ft onto a marble floor... while it was open... and NOTHING happened....
:Q

Also my current Inspiron 8500 flew from the front seat of my car to the floor during an emergency braking incident... but it was in its case....
Again... no damage...

I dropped an inspiron 8500 about 3.5ft of a counter onto a wood floor and it left a mark plus the built-in nic won't make a working connection unless i hold the ethernet cable or tape it tightly to the machine (pulled down so the pins make proper contact to the jack). Grr.. Now i just use a pcmcia nic or wireless.

I dropped an IBM T23 a few times, usually while it was in my bag, mostly turned off - although I did drop it a few feet once while it was running. The worst it's suffered is the hinge part got knocked out of place but no actual damage to the hinge other than it being dislodged.
Of course, the hard disk did eventually go, so that may have been the start of its downfall - I had to hit it to get it to spin again, I almost lost all my files on that disk, and even after I got it started again it made a really nasty noise while running :)

The nic is probably a mini-pci card, you can buy the part off ebay cheap and fix it for good.

pccomputing used to do notebook torture tests. They'd drop the notebooks, stick them in the oven, freeze them, pour coffee on them, etcetc. Usually 1 or 2 notebooks would survive all the tests. I don't think pccomputing's around anymore, though.

I dropped a Thinkpad 600E on its corner and it left small square in the corner where the LCD spilled out. I think that was my worst case. My Thinkpad T23 fell on the floor but it was inside a bag so hopefully it provided enough insulation.

Dropped a Dell Latitde 3 feet onto rough asphalt. It survived except for the latch that holds the display closed and a small piece of the plastic body breaking off. Display half was also very slightly loose, but the machine continued to function. I was freaked out because it was my company's!

How did it happen? :| Someone left my bag unzipped and when I grabbed it, the bag opened up and the lappy flew out. :| :| :|

I once droped my dads 15" powerbook while leaving the library of congress. Actually, my bag was so full of books and copies that the straps d-ring snaped off. The drive was dented and the case and hinge were cracked.

Had applecare, they put in a new drive and new hinge.

Haven't dropped it... but I think this counts for more than a drop

Rear ended by an 18 wheeler at 50 MPH

Laptop was in the trunk :)

Screen cracked in several places, CPU non-functional, and it made a grinding sound upon pushing the power button.

I did manage to recover the hard-drive with Knoppix.
