Have you ever broken a blood vessel in your eye?

How my eye looks right now.

So I had a real intense workout at the gym last night. It was my chest day, and I maxed out weight on decline press. Now this morning my eye looks like crap (see pic above). I'm going to see a doctor later this afternoon, even though it doesn't really hurt.

1. How quickly do these things heal?
2. Is my eye in any danger of permanent damage?
3. Should I quit going to the gym for a few days, just to let it heal?

Got a real picture?

This actually happened to me about a month ago. I was driving home, and my girlfriend noticed my eye had a dark red spot. I freaked out a bit but I could still see and it didn't hurt so I checked it on webmd when I got home. They said no big deal, sneezing can cause it, and I had sneezed shortly before she noticed the problem. I never went to the doc, just waited it out, it was completely gone after probably 3 - 3.5 weeks.

Hmm... interesting, especially considering you have the blind guy avatar.

I don't have a real picture, but the one I linked is amazingly similar to reality.

I actually popped a LOT of vessels in my eye once. The whole entire white part was blood red. I mean SOLID red. My iris and pupil were fine. It was a sledding accident... I was about 10 feet airborne and the sled sailed out from under me, I landed face first on the snow and slid about 20 feet before the rest of my body fell to the ground. So... yeah. I thought I was gonna be blind in that eye for sure, but all that happened was I scared the crap out of people for about 5 weeks until it healed, and my vision was only slightly affected.

In that case you may have a real problem. Look out for hobbits.

That guy's blood spot is nothing compared to what I have. Virtually the entire white of my right eye looks like the spot in his picture. It doesn't really hurt, but my eye feels a little irritated.

Can't see your pic, but description sounds like my situation a couple years ago. One half of the eye white suffenly went red. I am under treatment for elevated eyeball pressure (glaucoma) that is working, so I called the ophthalmologist. His nurse said no problem, this happens from time to time for no apparent reason, it will go away. About a week later, same thing in the other eye, and I freaked! Again ophthalmologist's office said don't sweat, even twice close together is no reaon to panic. So they both went away and did not recur.
My mother-in-law (80 years old) had an even worse-looking event this fall, and it also cleared itself in a couple weeks.

Dude... if your eye looks anything like that picture I'd go see a doctor. Don't mess around with your eyes.

I have had a blood vessel in my eye burst before, but it was just a small patch of blood, about a half centimeter in diameter. It was gone within a few days.

I have a date with the doctor later this afternoon.
