Have you ever bought refurbished hardware?

I'm thinking of getting a refurb hard drive. 250GB 16MB Cache. 3 year warranty from Western Digital. Should I do it?

Some things, not hard drives however.

With hard drives being pretty cheap (many after MIR's), I have no desire to mess with a refurbed hard drive.

Why not? Just remember that any hard drive is undependable. If you only have your photos saved in one place then you deserve to lose them when your HD dies.

Make backups, but in the meantime i'd go for it if the price is right.

I don't think I could ever buy a refurd hard drive. I did buy a refurd floppy disk drive once and has worked fine.

Well, my line of reasoning is that most companies will send you a refurb drive of the same model if they have to replace one of your drives. It's not too often that you see someone complaining about a bad drive replacement

My seagate 250GB ended up being defective after 4 months, and since then they've sent me 2 refurbished drives and the first was DOA, and the second one is filled with damaged sectors which I'm about to return again.

I've bought alot of refurbished components, mostly good...one bad mobile barton CPU out of the bunch.

If the price was right, I'd consider it...just no critical data.
