Love this city.......best International Jazz festival in the world along with a Formula 1 Grand Prix event.

Can't beat it with a stick.

Oh........and forgot to mention more than 30 kilometres, the world's largest underground pedestrian network of underground city, when the temps dip below minus 30....................yes that's CELSIUS my friends. Not counting the windchill factor.

Lucky we hace our Quebecoise girls to keep us warm, day or night. ;)

cheers

I grew up in Brossard and moved to the USA about 13 years ago (in my 20's when I moved).

I was just back in Montreal last weekend for a friend's wedding.

I like the city, but NYC is much better. The SF Bay area where I live now doesn't have the -30 weather and I like not having to shovel snow all the time in the winter.

So a quebecois and a noofie find a genie. The genie says,

"Ok, I'll grant you both one wish."

The quebecois says, "I want you to build a 100 foot wall around quebec! That way we'll finally be free of les idiotes qui parler le anglais! (idiots who speak english)

Genie says, "Done!", and there it is, a 100 foot wall around Quebec. No way in or out. He turns to the Noofie. "Now, what is your wish?"

The noofie asks, "Is that wall watertight?"

:p

Montreal is a nice, nice city.

Tuesday, I got a call from a company in Montreal. Unfortunately the woman only named the company once abd I wasn't paying attention because it was before she said what she was calling for... ack. But anyway they say they won't have me come up to Montreal (a 12 hours drive), but they said we'll probably do the interview on a webcam, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

I live in a 3000ppl town, so I'm a bit worried about Montreal. Plus I know like 3 people in Montreal. I would like to find something in Quebec City instead, but only companies from Montreal are calling me back.

Going up from Connecticut next weekend for the F1.

What is there to do up there? Any restaurant recommendations, as well as any events going on?

I was in Montreal for a bit. It was sureal in that I was finally starting to feel like Canada was a different country than the US, then get Quebec province and its like I'm in frikin France! All the signs on the roads seemed like they were predominately in French. I was listening to a hip hop station and when the DJs started taking they were like...black french gangsters! hahahahaha I was getting gas and the attendant insisted on speaking french to me, even though I said I don't speak french (in french too..its about the only I remember from high school french!), and after 5 minutes she snobbily said "what do you want" in a condescending french accent! hahahahaha it was kinda funny. Anyways, its a nice looking city, although I have to say the girls in Toronto looked better than the girls in Montreal. :Q

Yes I've been to Montreal and it is a nice place with good people. However I am happily awaiting Quebec's separation from the rest of Canada. It isn't because of Montreal, but rather I hate every other place in Quebec I've been. The people are absolutely rude because I'm Canadian and they expect you to speak french flawlessly with them.

If you are into clubbing, any club along the Main (Saint Laurent Street) or Crescent Street is fillied with nightlife. Nightlife starts late though and finishes late, but with all the F1 tourists in town it will be insane!

As for restaurants, you could come to Montreal every weekend for a year, dine at a different one every night and still not cover them all.

The clubs and restaurants are generally on the same strips so you need not go out of your way for dinner and then dancing.

Have a great time my friend.

I go there ever other year or so. Its definitely a great city with lots to do, and the people aren't too anal about speaking english vs rest of Quebec.

edit - I should say Quebec city rather then rest of Quebec, because I havent been to any other city within that province.

No, I meant what I said. The HOTTEST spot in Montreal is definately Saint Laurent Street (the main).

Saint Catherine Street is great too, but for the best spots you gotta hit the main.
