Have you ever been on a cruise?

If so, on which cruiseline? How long did you go, how much did it cost, and did you enjoy yourself? If you had the chance, would you do it again or go on a different vacation?

Thank you!

/me makes note of this thread for later.

I've been checking out cruises for the past few weeks, esp. since they're dirt cheap.

Last cruise I went on was with family like uh 12 years ago. Disney cruise. I think I'd prefer to go with friends this time tho'. ;)

Hell yes I'd do it again. We went on our first ever cruise in May 2002 aboard the Grand Princess. The food was good, the atmosphere was great, and the island stopovers were relaxing. On day 3 (of 7), I grabbed my gf out to the front of the ship and proposed. :Q ... somewhere in the middle of the Carribean.

Was a good time... makes regular one-stop vacations seem worthless. All you can eat, any time of the day/night, with different sights/sites and amenities to enjoy. What could be better? Without alcohol, I think the whole thing cost about $1400 for the both of us.

My cousin paid like 120 per person for 4 days in the Caribbean. It was with one of the big companies, but I don't remember which. My aunt was telling me if you can get at least 4 people is really cheap with chinese travel agencies. Might want to check the newspapers if you can read chinese.

Yeah... went out to a club the other night to kick it with Afrika Bambaataa's bboys... they performed last night in Santa Monica. Going to a jam tomorrow with Kujo, might check out TreeStyleSession on Saturday.

But yeah, back to cruises...

Unfortunately I can't... but my roommates can. $120 per person is incredible!! Where did they take off from? I'll probably have to fly out from Los Angeles....

Awwww... how romantic... :) Glad to hear you had such a good time... that's an excellent price, too! Was it a special deal?

Actually they just boarded the cruise in San Pedro (next to Long Beach). It was the week between xmas and new years, that's why it was so cheap.

We went through Expedia I believe... she planned it, I enjoyed it. Don't think there was any special deal. I did read up on the best cruise lines though... Royal Carribean and Princess were top 5. Disney was up there. Carnival, however, was not. Too many issues reported with them... but they are a "party" ship with lots of younger folks if you're looking to meet people. Royal is next for us, once we can afford it again...

We went on a cruise with Royal Caribbean for our honeymoon back in 1999, and it was terrific. We were on the Majesty of the Seas which is a slightly older ship and not as big as the massive one they have running that route nowadays (the eastern Caribbean). We had an all around wonderful time and are definitely planning on going again. If we go in the Caribbean again, we'll probably stick with Royal and go to the southern Caribbean because we would rather not go on the huge ship (it can't go to the smaller ports, which is a shame). Our cruise was about $1200 each including airfare from Washington, D.C., to Miami.

Princess cruises are even better from what my in-laws tell us as they have taken several both in the Carribean and Alaska (the latter tends to be older people so don't expect a party atmosphere, they are also more expensive). We're looking at a cruise for next year to starts in Osaka then goes to Nagasaki, Vladivostok, Pusan, and then hits a couple cities in China.

Carnival is a cruise line for younger folks, especially single ones. It's the cheapest in every sense of the word, but if you're looking to go drinking and meeting members of the opposite sex, then it's probably the best one to choose. It doesn't rate very highly because most repetitive cruise-goers tend to be older and married who don't really like the atmosphere. My wife went on Carnival before we met.

Same year, same ship, Western Caribbean tour. Would have been better if I wouldn't have gone with my wife, whom I married a few days earlier. Anyways, it was great and I highly recommend cruises!

I have been on a couple: The Big Red Boat - which is affiliated with Disneyland and another back on the late 80s. Food is usually plentiful, free and good on the boats. Gambling is fun too. Other than that, you mainly use it just to get to the islands.

We just got back from our honeymoon.. A cruise to the caribbean. Carnival Paradise ( a totally non smoking ship) we had a 7 day cruise.. was about $1500 total including airfare for 2 (toronto to miami).. But that doesnt count gratuties, alcohol, and tipping... lots and lots of tipping. We would definitely do it again. But on a different ship. It gets a bit boring once you have explored the ship and seen all there is to see on it.

Edit: Also, i wouldnt go on the same route.. id go to different islands. :)

Carnival Cruise when I was 18, nothing but teens on that boat (which was good at the time :)) We went through the virgin islands on that one, don't really remember too much ;).

Went on Norwegian for my honeymoon 4 years ago and it was awesome. Cancun, Cozumel and Rhoatan (sp) Island Honduras.

Next up is an Alaskan cruise in the next 5 years :).

cruises are the best imo.

i've been on 3 so far here is the run down:

cruise 1: carnival imagination. sometime around 1997. western carribbean(cozumel, grand cayman, jamaica). my first cruise ever. didn't know what to expect but loved it. food 24/7 all free! room service, pizza station, 3 sit down meals. casino, gym, spa, clubs, bars. me and my 2 buddies crammed into a regular room for about $700 each including airfare from nyc to miaimi. met 3 women and hung out with them the whole time. lots of partying and hanging out and enjoying the islands. very relaxing too when it was necessary.

cruise 2: carnival destiny sometime around 1999. me and 3 buddies split 2 rooms for probably around $1000 each. on the line to get on the ship we met 4 strippers and hung out with them for the whole trip. lots of partying and eating and hanging out. same itinerary as 1st cruise.

cruise 3: royal carribbean adventure of the seas dec 2001. honeymoon. wife and i got a balcony room. it was great. about $1400 each including airfare down to puerto rico from nyc. this crowd was much less like the rowdy crowd of carnival cruises which was perfect for us, but don't get me wrong there was still a decent number of partying type people, it's just that the percentages were now more balanced. carnival is partier heavy. the itinerary was southern carribbean(aruba, curacao, st. martin, st. thomas) and we had a blast. we recommended it to our friends for their honeymoon and they went on the exact same cruise. the boat had a rock wall, ice skating rink, gym, spa, tons of pools and so much to do.

pm me if you have any specific questions.

highly recommended

Been on a couple with disney cruise lines. First one was 10 days, second was 14. Cost me nothing cause my parents paid for it, I would definately go on another one. We went to the Caribbean both times.

only if you count eight ~70 day patrols on a submarine as a "cruise" :p

no, can't image paying to go out on a ship , after being in the Navy

although, i would like to see the Alaskan Inside Passage, that is the only cruise i would ever consider paying for
